Although we cannot yet display artwork in our Clubhouse Studio, we are
delighted to feature in print our very own professional artist, resident Bonnie
Roth, who has worked in the field of art for over 50 years. She continues
to refine the nature of her work, being consistent in the use of bold colors,
dark or bright. She works in clay, watercolor and acrylics, sometimes in
combination. The vast majority of her works involve people, singly or in
groups.
In the past, Bonnie's works emphasized women who were cute or
beautiful. They appear real, occasionally pleasing to look at, but more
often intentionally not. They are sometimes posed, sometimes natural,
and always interesting, always colorful, with faces that depict another kind
of beauty that honors their strength of spirit and culture. For the last two
years, Bonnie's passion has been depicting women from Africa. She wanted
to learn all about their family dynamics, their strength and to show their
exotic beauty. An important part of this beauty, she says, is their colorful and
feminine clothing. She finds that as each piece becomes a finished work, a
back story or biography seems to develop along with it.
Featured here is her painting "Beached" which was recently on display at
the Front Porch Gallery in Carlsbad. If you missed the exhibit, check it out on
FrontPorchGallery.org. Another beautiful work is called "Kasandu," which
means "One who spreads life to all." Kasandu is one of Bonnie's favorite
paintings. Absolutely stunning! Enjoy! ~ Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikow
