SERT CLUB: Safety & Emergency Reponse Team Neighbor Helping Neighbor 6 | OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2020 | The OHCC SERT Club is a new club. Our goal is to help our community in times of disasters as well as every day. We are a service club, but we are also a social club. We are forward thinking and enthusiastic. But we need YOUR HELP! We are rolling out a new grassroots movement, the Neighbor Helping Neighbor Committee. We are looking for volunteers to become Street Captains and Co- Captains on their streets. You will be our Ambassadors, and, as such, your main goal is to help your neighbors to gain knowledge and be prepared in the event of an adverse incident in order to survive! To succeed in this important task, you will need to keep in touch with those living on your street, be mindful of their needs and aware of beneficial resources that may be useful and helpful to them. The OHCC SERT Club provides an important service to our community and many volunteers are needed. Please have a look at the Club's website for membership and other information. (https:// tinyurl.com/ohccsert) Feel free to contact the Neighbor Helping Neighbor Committee Co- Chairs Joann Bush (sbush@bushcompany.com) or Annie Gandomi (gandomi19@gmail.com) We want to hear from YOU! By Scott Lemieux, CPS Director Greetings OHCC residents and staff. As we move toward a version of normalcy, the number of guests, service providers, and vendors entering the community has dramatically increased. Although CPS has established a proven procedure to process non- residents into the community, a brief wait at the Front Gate is inevitable. Please remind your guests, service providers and vendors that the access procedures are a requirement and necessary to maintain the safety and security of OHCC. To that end, residents are responsible for the conduct of their guests at all times while they are visiting OHCC. CPS appreciates those guests who are cooperative and understanding while we properly follow the stated protocol. As a reminder, the access gates at both the front and back gates close after each vehicle. The likelihood of damaging the gate and the vehicle attempting to "beat the gate" are markedly increased. Please take a few seconds to allow the gate to close before entering or exiting OHCC. Finally, a note regarding safety, as operations and daily life continue to move back to their pre-COVID levels, please ensure you're adhering to all posted speed limits, stop signs and parking regulations within OHCC. If you have any questions please contact the Front Gate for assistance and/or clarification. Community Patrol Services The recently chartered OHCC SERT Club is organizing a community-wide Food Drive on behalf of the North County Food Bank. Inspired by the success of a food drive to 350 OHCC homes in July where $1,830 was donated online and by checks and 752 pounds of food items were collected, the OHCC SERT Club, with its Neighbor Helping Neighbor Committee, is spearheading this inaugural effort hoping to raise $5,000 and collect 2,200 lbs. of food items! We all have moments of anxiety and sadness during these exceptionally difficult times, but we all know that there are many others who are facing even greater struggles. Let's show our gratitude for our blessings and compassion for the plight of many of our North County neighbors, a number of whom are seniors. Three ways to give: Option 1: On Fri., Oct. 23, from 9 am to 1 pm, the Food Drive will take place in our Overflow Parking Lot. SERT volunteers, using health and safety precautions, will collect food items from your car (trunk)/golf cart. Food items should not be opened, nor in glass jars, nor perishable. Option 2: From Oct. 10 to Oct. 24, make a monetary donation online directly to the Food Bank on their designated website: https://www.fooddriveonline.org/northcounty/OHCC-SERTClub. The website is SECURE, so you can safely use your credit card! The Food Bank is able to amplify the value of your contributions as it buys food items from distributors and avoids the middleman. Amazingly, each dollar buys five meals! You will receive a receipt for tax deduction purposes, this applies to both Internet and check donations. Option 3: Drop-off a check at the Food Drive on Oct. 23, payable to: "North County Food Bank" or mail your check to Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, 9850 Distribution Avenue, San Diego, CA 92121. Be sure to put "OHCC Food Drive" on the memo line of your check. We hope that we can count on you to help support this worthwhile and essential effort! Thank you for your generosity! SERT CLUB FOOD DRIVE: Fri., Oct. 23, 9 am to 1 pm, Overflow Parking Lot
