From the Recreation Director By Elise Campbell Well, we've made it to November! At the time this article is written we still do not have authorization to host large events and social gatherings. Events for 2021 are still tentative but we are hopeful we can begin advertising and selling tickets soon. In the meantime, please continue to check channel 97, our Sun Lakes website and Facebook for the most recent and up-to-date information. We are happy to announce that we will be hosting a fundraiser for the VFW Troop 233 on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The In-N-Out Food Truck will be onsite and tickets will be sold from Nov. 2 to Nov. 4 in the Bus Room. Please see the article below for more event information or call the Recreation Department at (951) 845-2191. Cousin's Maine Lobster Food Truck will also be making a one-time appearance on Sat., Nov. 21 from 2 to 8 pm. This will likely be the last of the food truck events for 2020, so be sure to stop by and support them. Thank you to all who supported the food trucks this year! 18 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2020 | Wed., Nov. 11 from 11 am to 12 pm; Main Clubhouse Parking Lot Although we are unable to do our annual walk around the community this year, we still would like to raise funds for our local VFW Troop 233! This year's event will take place on Veteran's Day, Wed., Nov. 11 at the Main Clubhouse parking lot with the In-N-Out Food Truck! Event tickets are $20 per person (checks only, payable to SLCC). The cost includes your choice of meal (double-double, hamburger, cheeseburger or grilled cheese) with a bag of chips, drink and t-shirt. All proceeds will directly benefit the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Desert Edge Post 233. Tickets will only be sold in the bus room Mon., Nov. 2 through Wed., Nov. 4 from 9 am to 1 pm. Only 10 people will be allowed in the bus room at one time. Please remember to wear a mask and social distance whenever possible. For more info., call the Rec. Dept. at (951) 845-2191. 9th Annual Veterans Day Fundraiser Due to COVID-19 guidelines, we are unable to have a tree lighting ceremony this year. However, the District trees will still be lined along Country Club Dr., beautifully decorated for the holidays along with the Menorah. The trees will be lit every evening beginning Tues., Dec. 1 until Sun., Jan. 3, 2021.
