By Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly I just found the closet door, am crawling in, and locking the door behind me. The whole world has gone bonkers. The rioters are destroying the businesses and anything else in their way, people are smearing and swearing at each other, no one is allowed to voice an opinion contrary to theirs, if you are not part of their group, you are to be thrown aside or eliminated. Saw some horrible film clips the other day of Seattle and Portland and Chicago. There were sections of the cities destroyed and the authorities did nothing to maintain order. In fact, they sympathized with the rioters. This is not the world I grew up in where we were all friends, with our own ideas and ideals. We had our own thoughts and opinions and everyone else respected them. Not today! If you are not with me 100 percent, then you are "agin' me"! I hope we are smart enough to not bring this attitude or philosophy into our community. If you have a gripe or a question, don't interpret it or make up a story that fits your ideas — find out the truth. Find out what someone said or what they did rather than suspecting the worst case scenario. Rumors breed contempt. As rumors roll down the hill, they grow to outlandish stories and they end up so far from the truth, no one knows how it began. Because of the pandemic, so many actions have been taken to protect our community, our finances, and our lifestyle. You have a right to know what is being done, what is being decided and how it affects you. Bear in mind, however, we elected the Board of Directors to act in our stead and they represent us in all things. A case in point — many question why the Food and Beverage operation isn't ready to open and start to serve food and drink. It will open but not until November because with a new schedule, the personnel and facilities need to be made ready. In cleaning and renovating the kitchen, mold was found behind one wall. This is a problem that needs special care and attention. By the time everything is readied, we will be into the month of November. This is a simple answer for a simple question. Why didn't we ask the question instead of accusing the Board of Directors or the Administration of wrong doing? In a senior HOA, communication is really important. Remember, however, there are many residents who don't care what is happening; just don't bother them — they are enjoying their retirement one day at a time. We have an excellent system to inform members as to what is going on in our community. It is going to get better. Our Marketing Advisory Committee will issue a monthly report about various happenings at Sun Lakes, and each District will publish it. Something you want to know? Have a question? Call your District Delegate — they can find the answers! DISTRICT DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT Every Sun Lakes resident receives an Emergency Preparedness Package from his or her district delegate after he or she moves in. A magnetic red plastic envelope, called "The File of Life," is part of the package. The paper(s) within it should be filled out as soon as possible, and the envelope placed on the outside of your refrigerator. The File of Life is very important because all first responders in our area — police, fire, paramedics, etc.— know about this envelope, and look for it upon entering your home in an emergency. The File can save vital minutes that can ultimately save your life. BE SURE TO KEEP IT UP-TO-DATE. Also in the envelope is an orange placard that is used in annual EPAP drills (and ultimately real emergencies), and should remain in the envelope. In case of drills and actual emergencies, place the placard in a front-facing window visible from the street, to inform your zone captain that all is well in your home. If you do not have a File Of Life and an orange placard, contact your Delegate or EPAP coordinator to get one. Emergency Preparedness | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2020 | 9
