| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2020 | 23 Alex Bidelman, 1st Assistant Golf Professional Where did you grow up and where do you live now? I grew up in and attended High School in Aurora, Colorado which is a suburb of east of Denver. I currently live in Banning where I have been the last 11 years. Tell us about your family… I have been with my beloved wife for over 12 years. She just completed her master's degree and her biggest love is her family. We love family time and watching our kids thrive and do their activities. We have an amazing daughter, Clara, who just turned 11. She loves gymnastics, golf, learning, and is an avid reader. She enjoys trying everything, participating in all activities, and is a little ray of beautiful sunshine. She has played the flute for two years, does well in school, and loves learning. Our son Walter is six years old and the sweetest little man. He loves to play golf and baseball the most but enjoys most sports and being constantly active. He is very passionate about all kinds of service/worker people and loves thanking them for all that they do to keep the community clean and safe. They absolutely love story and family time and we are so proud of them. How did you first start golfing? What do you like about it most? I started golfing with a group of my moms' golfing friends around the age of 11. One of my moms' friends thought I was good at golf and suggested I pursue it. Then I practiced more avidly and made my high school golf team, winning many awards along the way. I participated in a lot of tournaments and activities and fell in love with the game, the sport, and all about it. I have been in the golf business ever since and am excited to share this love and great game with my children now. I love that golf is independent, it's not you against someone else. It is you and the course, always trying to do your personal best and improve your game. You are always trying to improve yourself, your game, your score, always trying to do better than you did before. I love the business side of golf as well. I have worked with and met so many great people as well as played so many great courses. It is truly a great game. I am so thankful it came into my life and that I pursued it. How did you get into the golf business? After high school, I wanted to do something that I was passionate about and golf was at the forefront. So, I decided to attend the Professional Golfers Career College in Temecula in search of an associates degree in golf management. During this time, I also started working at the Nike Golf School in Fallbrook, California where I was a junior instructor. After that experience, I decided I wanted to pursue golf as a career for my future and have been working in it ever since. What is your teaching philosophy? I have taught everyone from ages 4 to 90 years old, so I have come to find that all swings are not the same. I help find a swing that works for you and build on your personal strengths. I assist the student in understanding how the golf swing works as well as the science behind the swing. I help the individual build the most consistent swing to his or her abilities to make golf more fun.
