| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2020 | 53 I'm back as the newly re-elected Vice- President of the Sun Lakes RV Club. I am going to do my best to keep up with the great articles our previous Vice-Presidents, Bob and Pam Drummond, published this last year. Thank you, Bob and Pam for keeping us both informed and entertained. So, now the question is, what am I going to talk about? Well, I thought I would talk about two items. First, our recently-completed trip to wine country, Paso Robles. Then I want to talk about the term "camping." First, Paso Robles. By the time you are reading this, approximately 75 members and 30 RVs have already finished spending a great week at the Wine Country RV Resort. I have included a couple of pictures. In the December issue of Lifestyles, I will include a few of our activities we all undertook. Now let's talk about good old "camping." Why? Well, when you get right down to it, isn't that what the RV was invented for? Many of us campers just got tired of sleeping on the dirt and wanted some of the "comforts of home." What was the first RV? The world's first RV, Charles Kellogg's Travel Log, was handmade in 1917 from a fallen chunk of a redwood log and mounted on a 1917 Nash Quad truck, the toughest, most rugged vehicle of its kind at the time. See the picture. This is all great stuff. However, the "camping" I am talking about is the good old tent, sleeping bag, firewood, and some food kind of camping. When I was a child, I remember my dad, four boys, and two dogs, in an old canvas- covered International pick-up. We went to the Salton Sea. Great memories. It started out with all the wiring in the dash shorting out in the middle of the night and ended with running out of gas on Hwy. 10 in the snow here in the Banning area. Wow, what a trip. I want to end with a simple request. Let all your minds, hearts, and memories take a trip down memory lane to when you were a child. What great camping trips did you and your family take? I bet your children and grandchildren would love to hear all the details. Until next month, be happy, be safe. Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time.
