60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2020 | Friday mornings, 9 am in the North Clubhouse. Cost is only $5 per week (or $20 per month). Tai Chi (Tie-Chee) is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Originally developed for self-defense, Tai Chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, Tai Chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. The tradition of Tai Chi dates back to at least the 15th century in China, and the practice is based on the belief that balancing the opposite forces in the body (known as yin and yang) will encourage the flow of chi (energy) through the body to promote health. You may also find Tai Chi appealing because it's inexpensive and requires no special equipment. Tai Chi can be done anywhere, alone or in a group class. If you're looking for a way to reduce stress, consider Tai Chi and join fellow Sun Lakers in developing strength in balance, stamina, and flexibility. Info., Dee Coughtry, (951) 381- 4919. Tai Chi Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. The "Fun Run" is moving right along — only a couple of weeks left to play. The format has been interesting, particularly for players whose mobility is compromised. For those of you who are not playing this fall, the only walking involved in the game is a change of ends when one team reaches eight on the scoreboard! Might be something we'd want to consider for the new year—or maybe not. When the "Fun Run" schedule is completed, bocce will be over for 2020. Hopefully play will resume in it's regular format after the first of the year — stay tuned! Meanwhile, enjoy the holidays. Stay safe and well. Questions, call Dutch at (951) 845-0392. Friends of Bocce Lettuce tell you about a competition coming to the community. Are you tired of your doctor telling you to eat less ice cream and eat more vegetables? Have you eaten so many salads that you want to scream? Come join us to put those vegetables to good use in our first annual Salad Throwing Competition. We will have the Iceberg Shot put and the Carrot Javelin. We will have an accuracy contest throwing cucumbers and romaine through hula hoops worth varying points. At the end of this friendly competition we will have a grand finale just like Spain's La Tomatina with a tomato throwing celebration (social distancing enforced somehow)… and then we can argue if a tomato is a fruit or a vegetable.
