| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2020 | 5 Along with the need for additional data, an integrated POS system would allow add-ons such as pour controls and inventory/recipe management and tablet transactions. Currently, the lounge only utilizes a jigger to measure alcohol pours. By utilizing a POS pour control system, alcohol could only be dispensed when a customer ticket is opened, and lounge bartenders can systematically dispense the correct amount of alcohol. This helps eliminate overpouring and "free drinks." This is extremely important as the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) had identified the lack of pour controls as one of the areas that needed to be addressed by the Board. This also was one of the reasons Sun Lakes was required to pay a tax penalty as the CDTFA believed alcohol sales were under reported. For the Food & Beverage operations, an upgraded POS will increase productively for the kitchen management team. The addition of portable tablets will allow servers to enter the patrons order table side. This will eliminate them writing down the order tableside and then returning to the kitchen to enter it into the POS system. Servers can spend more time assisting patrons rather than entering orders twice. Customer service can also be evaluated as data on service times will be readily available. This can also assist the Board and Management in determining opportunities to reduce labor costs. By upgrading the POS system, we will be able to obtain the data quickly, which will help the Board and management make informed decisions. An integrated system will be able to accommodate Golf Pro Shop, Food & Beverage, Recreation and Administration's needs for reporting and inventory/product controls. Further, utilizing one system for the entire Association allows for ease of cross training, use of script and gift cards. FirstService Residential staff will be presenting various POS system options to the Board in the near future.
