The
Greer
Cross
High above the Colony on the side of a nearby mountain
stands a large white cross that's easily seen from most
of the Colony. Where did it come from? What is it? Who
placed it there? I talked to Colony resident Don Dooley:
"The official title is the 'Greer Ranch Cross.' It was
placed on the hillside by the Greer family, a deeply
religious group, to commemorate those who died on
September 11th in the terrorist attack at New York's Twin
Towers. It's illuminated on special occasions such as
September 11th and Christmas Day. Regardless of one's
beliefs, the cross reminds us of those we have lost and
gives us hope for the future."
Don Dooley is a 30-year resident of the Colony. The
cross was not there when he moved in.
