SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | NOVEMBER 2020 5 The SDV Veterans and Friends Club is hosting a food drive from October 26 through November 20 for the Hemet Community Food Pantry. Please bring your donation of non-perishable food to the Lodge and place it in the bins provided. The annual garage sale will be postponed until 2021 due to the restrictions of COVID-19. In the meantime, if you wish to hold your own private garage sale, I have listed the steps below on how to obtain a permit. Please remember to turn in a copy of your permit to Jenevieve Banuelos before you hold your garage sale. The City of Hemet has begun reissuing yard sale permits; however, City Hall is not yet reopened to the public. Anyone who wishes to submit a yard sale permit must first go online to our website, print, and fill one out, then submit it to us in one of the following ways. Be sure to include your email address on the application so that we may email you back your signed and approved copy. Option A) You may mail it with a check or money order to: City of Hemet c/o Code Compliance 445 E Florida Ave Hemet, CA 92543 Option B) You may place the completed form and a check or money order in a sealed envelope addressed to Code Compliance and drop it into the Blue Utilities Mail Drop Box in the Parking Lot of City Hall at 445 E Florida Ave. Hemet, CA 92543 Option C) vYou may email your completed Yard sale form to CodeStaff@cityofhemet.org along with your phone number and a member of the Finance department will call you to complete a credit card payment over the phone. Please Note: No Cash Is Accepted For Payment. All payments, other than through credit card authorization form, must be in the form of a check or money order made payable to CITY OF HEMET If you have any further questions, please email Code Compliance at CodeStaff@cityofhemet.org Gregory Meeh Office Specialist I City of Hemet, Code Compliance 445 East Florida Avenue Hemet CA 92543 Tel: (951)765-2377 Email: GMeeh@cityofhemet.org Annual Garage Sale Postponed By Sherrie Chaparro, Resident I am sure that by now you have all noticed the ubiquitous use of the catch-all phrase "reach out." No one gets in touch with, contacts, writes, phones, emails, or texts anyone anymore. Even the media "reaches out" to political campaigns for comment. What next? Because of my former profession (attorney), I am a stickler for precise language. If correspondence, agreements, contracts, or legislation use imprecise language, disputes always end up in courts for judges to determine the meaning. In my mind, the phrase "reach out" implies more than just a straightforward attempt to communicate; it implies a form of contact seeking emotional support. During the past months, we have all been denied the social contact and support we are used to receiving from family, loved ones, friends and neighbors. So perhaps this shift in our language is one the many changes we are seeing as COVID ravages the world. But please, the next time you feel the urge to "reach out," pick up the phone. Reach Out and Touch Someone It is illegal for adults to ride bikes on public sidewalks. Our streets are public; our paseo walkways and paths are private property. SDV regulations do not prohibit bicycles from these walkways and paths. Please be courteous and considerate to all by making sure pedestrians are aware of bicycles approaching them from behind. Golf carts, allowed on our streets, are prohibited from walkways and paths, with the exception of the SDV cart while conducting SDV business. Bike Safety Reminders
