SERT CLUB: Safety & Emergency Reponse Team Neighbor Helping Neighbor 6 | OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2020 | Your Safety, Your Responsibility! Catchy phrase and so true. OHCC SERT is here to help residents learn how to be prepared and stay safe. Neighborhoods that are prepared for emergencies and disaster situations reduce the severity of injuries and trauma, lessen property damage, and save lives. If we all contribute as individuals and work together, we will help develop a stronger community and greatly improve our chances of a better outcome. Our OHCC SERT Club is committed to enhancing your knowledge and skill to help you prepare now! Our Emergency Response Team is an integral part of our Disaster Preparedness Plan. We are looking for residents with medical and emergency services experience. If this is you, consider sharing your skills within our community when it is needed most. SERT has been busy over the summer developing the Neighbor- Helping-Neighbor program. SERT is actively recruiting Street Captains and Co-Captains to better get to know each street's residents and provide them with the necessary information to keep themselves safe. For more information about the Neighbor- Helping-Neighbor program and the Emergency Response Team and to get involved, send an email to OHCCSERT@gmail.com. Have you checked out the OHCC SERT Club website lately? There are several presentations and safety related articles under the "Training Tab," including the Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED course on-line, Safety Committee Presentations, and How-to Videos. Visit our website at www.tinyurl.com/ohccsert. It is full of great information you will want to know about! We want to hear from YOU! By Scott Lemieux, CPS Director Greetings OHCC residents and staff. I want to take this opportunity to remind all residents and staff to maintain your level of awareness regarding the threat of wildfires. The devastation that is ravaging Northern California and much of Oregon and Washington can quickly and with little warning visit us here in North County. The Carlsbad Highlands Ecological Reserve is 473-acres of coastal sage and scrub brush that runs adjacent to OHCC to the South, West and Northwest of the community. CPS is constantly monitoring this area and has plans in place in the event it becomes necessary to begin evacuating the community. I recommend that every household have an emergency kit, either in your vehicle or by your front door, that you can easily grab if it becomes prudent or we're directed to evacuate. FEMA recommends having a kit with enough food, water and essentials, including medication for at least 72 hours. For more information on building your own emergency kit, visit https://www.ready.gov/kit. Additionally, please don't forget the needs of your pets. Maintaining a responsible awareness of the threat of wildfire and having a plan in the event of evacuation can save critical minutes and possibly lives. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Wendy Panizza, the HOA General Manager and the amazing staff at the HOA and the Clubhouse for all of your exceptional work, guidance, and cooperation. Community Patrol Services works in conjunction with and on behalf of the residents and staff for the benefit of the entire community of Ocean Hills Country Club. Thank you all for your tireless efforts and dedication to the community, its residents, guests and staff. Finally, a note regarding safety, please be mindful of the various environmental hazards within the community. Wildlife, such as coyotes and rattlesnakes will continue to be a threat, please contact Community Patrol or 9-1-1 for assistance. The high temperatures pose hazards of heat illness, dehydration and heat stroke. Please continue to hydrate throughout the day regardless of your physical activity. If you know of a neighbor or resident who may be in need of assistance or you're concerned for their well-being, please contact Community Patrol for assistance at any time, day or night.
