54 54 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2020 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2020 | Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes It seems Canyon Lanes is the only bowling alley open in Southern California right now. We have bowlers coming from all areas wanting to bowl. Our governor says that it is not safe to go to a bowling alley because it is indoors. Our Monday league has 64 bowlers now and we have not had a problem. We wear a mask to enter the alley and must wear a mask when we are not on the lanes. Everything is kept clean and sanitized by the employees. We feel that it is safe or we would not be here. As of the eighth week we have two teams within a half of a game of each other in the winning column. Motion To Strike (Lakana Burkett, Mae Brock, Joan Allen and Jim McGowan) is in first place with 19 ½ wins. Only one half games behind are the Misfits with John Hernandez, Jean Hernandez, Linda Stratton, and John Lyons. We have three teams tied for third place. Season High Scores for the Men are: Andy Toro Sr. with a 662 Scratch Series, Terry Lankster with a 249 Scratch Game, Bob Hall with a 765 Handicap Series and John Lyons with a 279 Handicap Game. Season High Scores for the Women are Gail Stormes with a 559 Scratch Series, Lakana Burkett with a 199 Scratch Game, Bette Jo Page with a 731 Handicap Series and Rose Alejandre with a 262 Handicap Game. What do you call a gutter ball? Alley Oops. There is no activity while the facilities are closed, but when they reopen… Do you enjoy playing the billiard game of 8 Ball? If you do, come join us. All Sun Lakes residents are welcome to practice with us Mondays through Saturdays. We normally draw for partners at noon, then play to around 2 pm. There is no cost to join our group. However, if you elect to join a team, there is a $15 competition fee per three-month season. Eight teams compete every Thursday; four at 9 am and the other four at 1 pm in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room. For a fun afternoon of friendly competition, come watch us play. For more information, please contact Barry Sorensen at (951) 402-4020 or email jobear15@sbcglobal.net. Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Sun Lakers & Friends Welcome back Sun Lakers and Friends. I know you are all happy to be back on the lanes at Canyon Lanes- Morongo. Thanks to the wonderful management and staff and their implementation of COVID prevention rules, we are able to bowl every week. It is VERY IMPORTANT that we follow these rules and practices. We would hate to be closed down because of non observance of the guidelines. Remember, you must use the table assigned to your lane. Masks must be worn at all times in the common area. Nothing other than bowling equipment may be brought in the center. This means no food, drinks or containers of any kind are allowed in the Center. We currently have 14 teams in this League. Those of you from Sun Lakes will notice we have many new friends joining us. Bowlers from Temecula, Menifee, San Bernardino and Redlands have come to play. We welcome all of you. It is good to spice up the League with new blood. Since we are just getting started, I don't have Stats to report at this time. Look for these numbers in the January Lifestyles. Thanks to the efforts of Manager Dave, the center has a new Lane Walker oiling machine. Dave has told me that this should provide us with a more consistent oil pattern and shot. Thank you Dave. Good bowling to all!
