FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2020 53 Cornhole Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. There's a New Game in Town Thanks to the efforts of Alfred Blair, we now have two cornhole courts set up near the shuffleboard courts. According to Google, some form of cornhole originated around 1300 AD in an area now known as Germany. In the beginning, it was not called cornhole at all. There were many different varieties, but it began by throwing small items into milk crates. With lots of beer flowing, this evolved into a game for gatherings and the various professions started crafting throwable objects out of leather and cloth, to see what worked best. Today, cornhole is played by throwing bags toward an inclined board with a hole in it. Each player has four bags and takes turns tossing them. Any bag that lands and stays on the board, without hitting the ground first, gets counted as 1 point. After all the bags are thrown, the score is counted up. For example, if team blue has three bags on the board and team red has 2, then team blue get 3- 2 = 1 point. A bag that lands in the hole, gets counted as 3 points. Twenty-one points or higher wins the game. To follow HOA guidelines, all players must use their own bags and retrieve them themselves. You can purchase a set of four bags at Big 5 or Amazon for $17. Each player takes turns picking up their own bags so as not to touch others. You can play without wearing a mask, as long as you keep a six foot distance from the other player. While waiting to play, you must keep your mask on and practice social distancing. Play times are 3 to 5 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is usually a spare set of bags for those who want to try. This is a fun sport that anyone can play. Come out and give it a try. Thanks again Al for setting this up. ~ R. Terry Miller, rterrymiller367@gmail. com Hi all! Well, it's been more than six months since I have written my last Breeze article for the shuffleboard group. That is because there wasn't really anything new to write about. Most, if not all, residents probably know that after a very long journey and with the assistance of Perry Goldstein and FirstService Residential's Project Coordinator Eric Rosenkrantz, our Board of Directors approved the construction of four new shuffleboard courts. The new courts will be located at The Lodge, where the game of horseshoes used to be played. If the weather is in our favor and things go as planned, construction should have started by the time you all are reading this article. The hope is that the courts will be available for play by the spring time and that we will be able to all get together and play again as a group, even if we have to wear masks and practice social distancing. I hope everyone continues to stay healthy and active during this pandemic and that we can all blossom in the spring of 2021. ~ Marty Rotman Shuffleboard Alfred Blair is ready for a game!
