FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2020 41 Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. As of this writing, we are still unable to have our Cinema Club screenings due to COVID. When we are able to resume, we will catch up on the films that have been previously scheduled. Normally, our screenings are the second and fourth Sunday evenings of each month at 6 pm in The Lodge Theater. We typically screen smaller films, foreign films, indie films and documentaries. If you want to get on the Cinema Club mailing list and receive information about future screenings, send me an email at michelesrosen@gmail.com. Don't forget the "s"! Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions about the Counter Culture Cinema Club or want to recommend a film, please email me at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen Counter Culture Cinema Club Classic Film Group The Tuesday Classic Film Group showings for the month are scheduled for Dec. 8 and 22 at 10 am, 2 pm, and 5:30 pm, and are dependent upon The Lodge Theater reopening in December. We will be showing a double feature for the first time — two Christmas specials. Hopefully The Lodge Theater reopens by December. The American magazine, published in 1889 (vol. 28) reminds us that the meaning of Christmas is "to give up one's very self - to think only of others - how to bring the greatest happiness to others - that is the true meaning of Christmas". The first Christmas special is from Rodman Edward Serling, the creator and head writer of The Twilight Zone, an episode entitled "The Night of the Meek." The second one is from the only four-time Oscar winning best Director John Ford, a western movie entitled, 3 Godfathers. "The Night of the Meek": After a derelict Santa Claus is fired on Christmas Eve, he finds a mysterious bag that gives out presents. With this bag he sets out to fulfill his one wish - to see the less fortunate inherit the bounties of Christmas. 3 Godfathers: Four outlaws come to New Jerusalem, a town full of courteous and religious people, to rob the bank. After shooting the president of the bank, only three make it out of town followed by the posse. By the time they get to the second desert water hole, they find it dry and also find a wagon with a dying mother and baby. The mother entrusts the care of the child to the three men. When the horses are dead the next morning, the three outlaws have no choice but to try to walk back to New Jerusalem and only two want to take the baby. In the end… "A word to the wise, to all the children of the twentieth century, whether their concern be pediatrics or geriatrics, whether they crawl on hands and knees and wear diapers, or walk with a cane and comb their beards. There's a wondrous magic to Christmas, and there's a special power reserved for little people. In short, there's nothing mightier than the meek. And a Merry Christmas to each and all." Rodman Edward Serling (1924 – 1975). And, "God bless us, every one!" Tiny Tim, A Christmas Carol (published 1843, filmed 1938). ~ Paul Plamondon Classical Music Club We are classical music lovers with an interest in sharing our love, knowledge, and interest in classical music. We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7 pm in The Lodge Theater. We listen to and watch musical selections on the big screen. Each month we focus on a particular work or several selections of one composer. We also discuss current musical performances in the area. We welcome new members. Contact Steve Benoff at steve.benoff@verizon.net or (310) 413-4896. ~ Steve Benoff
