| THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2020 | 15 COMMITTEE NEWS By Jodi Harris, Diane Schultz & Gloria Brosky SOLAR INSTALLATION Maybe it was our summer heat and Edison bills, but solar applications are on the rise. PLEASE remember that it is the responsibility of the homeowner to complete a home improvement application. A few companies are telling homeowners that they will take care of all paperwork. This is not correct. The homeowner needs to turn in the application, together with the schematics supplied by the company. Also, pipes need to be painted the color of your stucco or trim. Most companies will paint the pipes for you if you supply the paint. If you have any questions, please call Colleen or Elizabeth in the HOA Office. FENCING Just a reminder: Fencing between properties is the shared responsibility of both homeowners. When replacing worn fencing, both neighbors must apply. HOME UPKEEP When we bought a home in The Colony, we were all well aware we were purchasing in an Association with CC&Rs and Rules and Regulations which we agreed to follow. This means our homes should be maintained and aesthetically pleasing. When making changes to your home exterior, please follow these steps: 1. Download or pickup one of the three applications, depending on your project. The apps are Painting, Home Improvement or Veneer. 2. After completing the application, return it to the HOA Office. 3. The ACC meets the first and third Tuesday of each month, at which time we review each application. Our decision to approve or deny an application is based on the CC&Rs, Rules and Regulations, the ACC Guidelines and City codes. In addition to the seven committee members in attendance at every meeting, there is a Board liaison as well as a management representative. Most applications are approved the first time, but occasionally we deny an application. The two main reasons for denial are that it violates an existing rule, or there may be missing information on the application. To expedite your application, please double check your paperwork thoroughly. 4. When your project is completed, please call the HOA Office and let Colleen or Elizabeth know the work is finished and ready for final inspection by the committee. The ACC appreciates all of you who have continued to make home improvements during the COVID shutdown. As the summer heat leaves us, we will begin home inspections again. Please continue to replace rotted wood fencing and patio covers, as well as adding that needed new coat of paint to your home. Our committee has over 1,500 homes to inspect, and the maintaining of your home makes it so much easier for us. WHAT'S NEW WITH THE ACC We are currently working to increase the number of front door colors in the paint book. When completed, it will be given to the Board for final approval. The committee is also trying to clarify current language in our guidelines dealing with outdoor décor on stucco walls. A third project is the addition of adding pavers to driveways, side walkways and sidewalks leading from the driveway to the entrance of the home. Due to COVID, we have not been able to proceed with these projects as quickly as we hoped, but we are slowly making progress. HOLIDAY DÉCOR We all love seeing all the homes decorated for the holidays. Please remember that decorations should be in good condition. If it looks like "Grandma got run over by a reindeer," do not put it out. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL
