16 | THE COLONY NEWS | DECEMBER 2020 | COMMITTEE NEWS By Rita Nastri, 698-8640 We have established an Outreach to History subcommittee to archive stories, memories and pictures as related to the beginning of The Colony. Many of the community's Founding Members are no longer with us, so it is very important that we preserve our history. We need all residents to dig deep into their closets, cellphones, drawers, and shoe boxes. This new subcommittee is looking for Colony artifacts, old programs from events and performances, pictures, tapes, films, campaign posters, documents, maps and newsletters. We plan to continue the story to today. Our search doesn't stop with seeking artifacts, etc. I will be chairing this committee and would like lots of help. I know there are many people who would be willing to help in any number of capacities, such as interviewers, photographers, audio experts, copywriters, copy editors, schedulers, historians, archivists and chronologists. Do you have a special skill that could transfer to one of these positions? This whole project could be lots of fun as we review old scrapbooks and remember ourselves and The Colony as we were 31 years ago. With our new website soon to be up and running, we are planning to feature some of these stories, pictures, videos, etc., as a revolving post. Additionally, this effort may result in a book and/or a video documentary. If you have contributions to this project, please call or email Greg Hill, 526-9896, greg@neotechstudios.com and we will pick them up. Alternatively, put them in an envelope addressed to Kara and place them in the drop box in front of the Clubhouse. We will copy and return your originals if you let us know you want them back. Ask your neighbors if they have items to contribute. Let's celebrate the past 31 years! COMMUNICATIONS By Greg Hill Our Nov. 3 meeting opened with the annual election of officers. Re-elected as chairperson was Greg Hill, also re- elected was Diane Frisbee, as vice chairperson. Newly elected was Joanne Perry, replacing the deceased Elizabeth Ashley as secretary treasurer. The committee discussed several items for the Board's review, among them was the Digital Census. This will be a survey to learn how the community would like to receive Board communications. Secondly, we plan to research option for Community based WiFi. We also discussed at length the status of the Colony History project which has been renamed by its subcommittee chairperson, Rita Nastri, the "Outreach to History." The Project will coincide with the 30th anniversary celebration of the city of Murrieta. Rita continues to solicit members for her subcommittee, membership on the subcommittee does not mean you have to be a voting member of the Communications Committee, although that too is possible. We are also continuing to solicit contributions of artifacts for the project. The committee is researching new software that will help with film production and website content which will allow us to provide ongoing services to the HOA Board and Committees, Association clubs as well as tailored graphics for the newsletter. Our regular meeting date and time was changed and approved by the committee. We will be meeting on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 3:30 pm, currently by Zoom. Our next meeting will be Dec. 1 at 3:30 pm on Zoom and will include a budget work session. COMMUNICATIONS: OUTREACH TO HISTORY Please join me in pausing for a moment of tribute and silence for our Communications Committee's late secretary, Elizabeth Ashley. Elizabeth passed away Monday, October 26. We will greatly miss her as she was a help to everyone. She headed the Emergency Preparedness Committee and was the Secretary for the Communications Committee and did so many other things. It's true, she will be sorely missed.
