Theatre Arts 12 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2020 | We've had a slow, quiet month and this article reflects it. The Clubhouse renovations are complete but room assignments are not yet being considered. As we've stated before, it all depends on the government regulations vis-à-vis COVID and staff availability. Members will be informed of any programming by email, as events come up. All in-person performances are on hold until the powers- that-be allow for it once again. Know that the Theatre Arts Club stands shoulder-to-shoulder with (and six feet apart from) the staff and residents to keep each other healthy. Calling All New OHCC Residents: If you have any interest in the theatre (acting, reading, costumes, set design, audience, etc.), please consider joining the Theatre Arts Club. Contact Jean Hefler at jeanhefler@hotmail.com for more information. The club has spoken and the 2021 slate of officers was approved. Thanks for your votes. Jean Hefler, President Lois Powazek, Vice President Cathy King, Treasurer Naomi B Katz, Secretary Actors' Workshop and Readers' Theater have ceased gathering in public. They are, however, open for new members. For information, please contact Sally Benton by phone at (602) 228-7541 or email (moki2@cox.net. MEMBERS ONLY! Play Readers Theater's current production of Anita Simons' play, The Leisure Set, will be aired via Zoom on Dec. 7. The play is about a mother and daughter living in an active senior community. Due to economic necessity, the pair needs to take in roommates to cover their expenses. The cast includes Valerie Thompson, Maureen Schneider, Dee Wardell, Sunny Griffin, Joe Ashby, Ros Nesler, and Jody Gorran. Only Theatre Arts Club members may request a link to view the show. There is no charge. This is just another reason to join Theatre Arts now -- and your $10 membership is good through December 2021. All paid members will be sent the information on how to RSVP and receive the link to watch the play on Dec. 7 at 3 pm. If you would like to join now in order to receive the link, please contact Anita Simons at asimonsays@gmail.com. Don't miss out on all the plays and readings planned for 2021, because "there's no business like show business." Improv – Gail Burnett writes: If you are interested in improv and would like to have a little fun with it then consider this: There is an opportunity to participate in some training with an experienced professional. No need to commit to the group yet but rather explore your own talents in a safe and supportive environment with lots of fun. Cost is minimal. We carpool to the location, which is about 30 minutes away in a huge outdoor environment. Details will be provided if you are interested. Contact Gail at nightingael6@gmail. com if you would like to know more. Our next Board meeting will be Dec. 19 at a time yet to be determined. The Board meetings are open to all members. We will be holding the next meeting via Zoom. If you want to attend send Lois an email (loispow@cox.net) by the 14th so we can send you the link. Check your email notices for details. General meetings are usually held the first Monday at 7 pm in Abravanel Hall. Please check your email for exact location, date and time. Only members will be informed of upcoming events, whether live or via Zoom. Join Theatre Arts so you can participate in all of our entertainment and activities. Leave your $10 check (good through 2021) in our envelope at the front desk when the Clubhouse reopens! Until then, our Board members will gladly accept membership checks or you can contact Cathy King at gertandcathy@hotmail.com for details on how to join. Check out our new and improved website, where you can read of our activities, and check out past and future productions. The address is http://www.ohccdg.wixsite.com/theatrearts. Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. OHSPA The Ocean Hills Society of Performing Arts Board of Directors sends their best wishes for a wonderful December and hopefully you will be able to celebrate a little with some or all of your family. We have three concerts lined up for 2021 in February, May, and August with a fourth for November just waiting for our contract. We truly hope that we will be able to be in Abravanel Hall in 2021 but we all just have to wait and see. We will keep you posted on any changes that might occur. We thank our Star Donors for 2020 and to show our real appreciation, we will be giving you all tickets for the 2021 concerts without any further donations. You were able to attend the one concert this year but hopefully we can give you four next year! Until we have more information, we will all be taking one day at a time and we pray that 2021 will be "back to normal" or at least close to normal! This will be a year that none of us will forget! Please stay safe, well and enjoy your holiday celebrations in December as best you can.
