20 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2020 | May your holidays be happy days, filled with love and laughter. And may each day bring joy your way in the year that follows after. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, and a Healthy New Year to All! Our Veterans Day Celebration was a site to behold and, certainly, one we will remember. Our thanks to the Village Vets Club members, led by Joe Ashby, for their determined desire to honor the resident Village Veterans on this memorable Nov. 11, 2020. The celebration included eight of our WWII vets, a contingent of Marines, and a vehicle with the honorary Parade Marshall, Donna Russell, decorated golf carts, a combination of military vehicles, and a Securitas vehicle. Additional support came from the Garden Club providing the Memorial Wreath, the Buddy Poppy rocks painted by the Art Lovers Club, and the Photography Club taking pictures of the event. The Woodchucks planned a pick-up of all the toys they have received, so far, to go to Camp Pendleton children for the holidays. It was a community effort and an honor to be part of. Unwrapped toys can still be donated by dropping them off at the Clubhouse North Entrance, nearest the tennis courts. A box is placed there to collect additional toy donations during the holidays. The Woodchucks will see they are distributed. The Recreation Department is sponsoring the Annual Holiday Golf Cart Parade on Tues., Dec. 15. We are hoping to have everyone's support. Please sign up by calling the Clubhouse Front Desk, decorate a golf cart, dress for the occasion, anything goes. Every cart or vehicle registered, including motorcycles, will receive one gift bag- to-go! We would ask that there be no candy throwing, a reminder to keep socially distant, wearing protective masks, and adhering to all the current guidelines. The route has been established, posted within and on the website. The participants will leave the Clubhouse parking lot at 5 pm, Securitas will provide assistance with the traffic flow. On a cold, Tuesday 2020 night, residents witnessed a rare and uncommon sight, why it's a California snowball fight. Stay tuned-just a clue for what we have in store! Our Pop-Up Services will continue through December. "Stacy's Crepes" is coming back to set up in the Overflow Parking Lot on Mondays, Dec. 14 and Dec. 28. "Chez Christophe" is planning to come on Mondays, Dec. 7 and Dec. 21. Look for the balloons at the entrance of the Overflow Parking on the day of. We will close the Clubhouse and the surrounding recreational areas on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve at 5 pm. On Jan. 1, 2021 we will be open our regular hours. Do Dues Day 2021 is being considered, but with the current guidelines in place, it is difficult to determine what the future holds for a gathering of this kind. We will certainly inform the community if a decision for hosting the event is made. For now, we are referring all calls to the current club officers, each club has had to make their own adjustments, during this time. This year has been one we will never forget and we are so looking forward, with hope in our hearts, for a brighter and happier 2021. The staff is grateful for the opportunity to have worked here all this time. We thank each of you for your encouraging words, gifts & goodies, and a sensitivity to the challenges we all have faced, this past year of 2020. Bring on 2021; the world is ready for a breath of new fresh air. Stay well, stay safe, and stay active! Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
