| OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2020 | 25
On the cusp of the holidays, I wish I could say things were looking
up, but… well… here we are, hoping.
I thought I would share another facet of our group with you this
month. Working with the Y at Camp Pendleton, our sewists and
quilters fill requests for "Comfort Quilts" that are given to a child who
has a deployed parent in the military. Though fairly simple to make,
there are strict guidelines as to size and pattern (so that all children
are treated equally), and little information is shared regarding the
children in order to protect their privacy.
We know the child's first name, which is added to the quilt, their
age, and try to follow their requests for favorite colors or interests
(rainbows, dinosaurs, Harry Potter). The Y provides pictures of the
parent who is serving our country which we print on fabric and add
to the Comfort Quilt so that Mom or Dad can be "held close" while
they are away. The thank you notes from the families make it all
worthwhile.
Other than that, the club is still Zooming on Fridays at noon to
bolster our spirits. Contact Sharon Philippe for an invitation (760)
500-3086. Needlers and Hookers Zoom on Tuesday afternoons;
call Marylu Belisle for an invitation (562) 454-1931. Our monthly
meetings on the first Thursday of every month are at 9:30 am on
Zoom too.
If anyone would like to participate in our activities and is not sure
of who to reach out to during this time, please call Chris Sanderson
at (858) 442-1834, or MaryLu Belisle at (562) 454-1931 for more
information. Also, please visit our website, updated by Terri Eckhardt,

are good through the end of 2021! Our meetings are held at 9:30 am
in the morning on the first Thursday of each month. We look forward
to seeing you in person when life gets back to normal!
