28 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2020 | Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Racquet Club Election of the Racquet Club officers was done by email vote since COVID sidelined gathering for an annual meeting. All Racquet Club members, totaling 390+, received an email with the slate of officers and election results were announced Nov. 3. Officers for 2021 are President - Herb Livsey; Vice President - Ann Rike; Secretary - David Johnson; Treasurer - Sid Saltzman. Thank you to current and past Board members for their leadership and dedication to our vibrant club. To get Water Volleyball flowing again, Scott Goldwasser, Alan Ballard and Charlie Payne have developed a new approach incorporating standard COVID precautions and a weekly online lottery to determine which lucky winners will get to play in each Friday's game. Charlie reports that since they do not have a real lottery machine, Scott has been using a home-brew system involving a large bucket, several green newts, and a toad. It has worked so far, but if you can help out he may need some more newts. Welcome to our newcomers! Meet them and others by setting up your next match using the list of "Available Players" on the information-packed Racquet Club website at https:// ohccracquetclub.wixsite.com/racquet Felicity Swerdlow came here by way of three continents before she and her husband Jonathan retired to be close to their grandchildren in Carlsbad and near the ocean. Born and educated in South Africa, she then lived in Israel for 20 years before landing in the U.S. and Arcadia, CA. What does she love about OHCC? "The truth is community… looking for a community to be part of and active in," said Felicity. Diana and Tom Haas are adjusting to their new life in Ocean Hills, having arrived from Upland, CA in August. "Here, we walk through the community and enjoy the foliage and meeting friendly neighbors," says Diana. Both are avid pickleball players year-round, mixing their time between here and Palm Desert. They also enjoy biking and hiking, and — when not running back and forth from the desert to the beach — they hope to travel more in their RV. Leslie and Bob Sommers discovered OHCC through Leslie's physical therapy work with residents. "My clients are always upbeat and anxious to get back to an active lifestyle here, and that's how I came to find out what a hidden gem this village is," said Leslie. Having raised their family in Carlsbad with a pickleball court in their own backyard, these fresh empty-nesters are happy to fill their calendars with club activities and antics with newfound friends. For 30 years, Paige and Bob James enjoyed frequent trips with their children to visit the grandparents in OHCC. They recently relocated from Glendale, CA to become second- generation residents in the village. "We have met some lovely people and are looking forward to meeting many more," says Paige. "Thanks to Bob's brother, Guy, who introduced us to pickleball. It's a fabulous game and quite the workout."
