SERT CLUB: Your Safety… Your Responsibility 6 | OHCC LIVING | DECEMBER 2020 | This is the newly adopted slogan of the SERT Club. It can mean your Self, your Family, your Street, your Village, or your Community. Whatever term you associate with Your, the SERT Club is ready to help – and be helped. If "Your" means Self or Family, the SERT Club website, www. tinyurl.com/ohccsert, contains several resources to assist you in developing an Emergency Preparedness Plan. Take some time to browse through the various topics and you will surely find articles that provide step by step instructions on preparing the Plan. If "Your" means Street or Village, the SERT Club invites you to join the Neighbor-Helping-Neighbor Street Captain Program. This program selects one or more Captains and Co-Captains per street whose duties are to help their neighbors help themselves, and in turn encourage them to help their neighbors as well. The objective is to ensure all street residents have an Emergency Preparedness Plan in place, know each other, know what assistance they may need, and be willing and able to offer that assistance. It's truly a neighbor helping neighbor's experience. As you can imagine, there are many streets in the community, meaning many Captains and co-Captains are needed. If you're interested, please contact the Chairpersons, Ann Gandomi and Joann Bush, via the SERT Club email address ohccsert@gmail. com. This is an excellent way to meet your neighbors. Last but certainly not least, if "Your" means Community, boy – do we need your help! The SERT Emergency Response Team, consisting of volunteer community members is significantly short staffed. Several members for various reasons have recently resigned, retired, or transferred to reserve status. This has created vacancies in all areas that need to be filled. No experience is needed – you can serve in a variety of positions. No training is needed – that will be offered to you. The only thing we ask is that you have a willingness to assist the community during the time of an emergency. If you're interested, please contact the Emergency Response Team Operations Section Chief (Tom Porter) via the SERT email address ohccsert@gmail.com. As you can see, "Your" can mean different things to different people, but the one thing in common with all the meanings is the SERT Club. Let us help you and in turn, please help us. Together we can continue to make our community a great place to live! ~ John Slayton, SERT Club President By Scott Lemieux, CPS Director Greetings OHCC residents and staff. October proved to be a busy month for Community Patrol Services. CPS was able to provide support and assistance to a number of worthy causes that were spearheaded by the generosity of OHCC residents. CPS provided support in the way of traffic control and general assistance for both the Flu Shot event and the SERT Club Food Drive. Both events were a resounding success and CPS was proud to be able to play a small role in that success. The Carlsbad office of Securitas was pleased to sponsor the Shred Event that was held at the middle of the month. It was such a successful event that unfortunately not all residents had the opportunity to benefit. Therefore, at the recommendation of the Master Board, the Association sponsored a second shred event for early in November, in order for those who weren't able to participate to make the most of that opportunity. As previously mentioned, please ensure that if you are a dog owner that you do the responsible thing and maintain positive control of your pet at all times when outside of your home. The rules and regulations are very clear regarding pet leashes. Residents not abiding by those rules and regulations will be cited accordingly. Depending on any altercation resulting from irresponsible pet ownership, residents may be held accountable to authorities and consequences outside of OHCC. Finally, a note on safety, the pedestrian lane on Leisure Village Way is for pedestrians only. No wheeled vehicles may travel in the pedestrian lane. This includes, but is not limited to bicycles, golf carts, single rider carts, and of course motor vehicles. Violators of this rule will be cited and will likely be called to a hearing with the Citation Review Committee. Safety is paramount. Please do your part. Community Patrol Services
