14 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | DECEMBER 2020 | The Library Committee hopes you are well and staying busy. We certainly have enough books checked out to indicate you're reading! Keep a card table ready for a puzzle. When you feel stressed, sit and put some pieces into that work of art. Hobby Lobby has Christmas puzzles on sale to help you get in the spirit of the holiday. Embrace the new "normal." Please remember that our library is open Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to 1 pm and on Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm. We were deciding whether to remain open on Saturday and today, (Saturday), we had enough residents saying they were so happy we were open that we decided to remain open on the weekend. We are still requiring face masks and gloves to be worn while in the library. Everything, books and puzzles, have been quarantined a minimum of three days and ready for you to check out. Committee members have purchased the gloves for your use while there. Please don't remove them. Our current displayed paperback books are 2016 to 2020. We have a huge selection of over-sized paperbacks. They seem to be getting larger and very hard to display. And, if you like westerns, check out Johnston, author. I believe we have 20 of his books and they are pretty good westerns! Our fiction hardbound books are from 2010 to 2020. Our residents are so generous with donations of new 2020 books. Normally we ask that you only take a couple books at a time. With the current situation we welcome you to take several books, along with puzzles, to help pass the time. Our non-fiction book section is HUGE! And, easy to get to. They are under the paperback cabinet. We also have a LARGE PRINT section of books, both hardbound and paperbacks. We would welcome more donations of large print books. Before the pandemic surfaced we were excited to start a Four Seasons Author section. I was able to put Lynne Spreen's books out for display and, bam, we were shut down. We hope to move forward as best we can. Look at the display case in our hall and get to know our authors. I've read all the books and highly recommend every one of them. Lastly, we do not make the rules, NO magazines are allowed anywhere. Think about hundreds of people touching them. We also do not provide a place to sit and read. We need to keep our distance. BUT — we love helping you! Four Seasons did a wonderful job of decorating for fall and the Halloween decorations were so fun! We have less room for Christmas decorations in the library. We need our pull carts so we don't lift heavy boxes and, our table for puzzles is so important. As with everything, we adapt! Reading brings people into your life. Open that book! Until next month… Cookie Library Committee Recently we have had some planned power outages as So. Cal. Edison (SCE) upgraded power cables and some time ago we also experienced unplanned outages. Were you prepared for these events? Are you prepared for future outages of several minutes, half an hour, several hours, several days? Do you have contingencies to power your medical and other critical equipment? For short outages to power low power critical equipment Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) devices can power your critical equipment for minutes to hours depending on the size of the UPS and the power draw of the equipment that is plugged into it. For larger power consumption and longer time needs, a generator may be necessary. These can be gasoline, propane, natural gas powered or powered from two or three of these fuels. These require a way to store the fuel or not be interrupted by damage to the distribution infrastructure. Solar generators which don't have the fuel storage issues are also available. They have one to several solar panels that charge batteries in the generator that provides the AC current. All of the mentioned generators come in various sizes and power capabilities to match your critical equipment needs and budget. This is a great time to think about Power Preparedness. Visit https://fscert.org to learn how. Our Mission: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is designed to increase individual and community preparedness and self-reliance in the event of man-made or natural disasters. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has officially recognized CERT as an important part of a community's disaster preparedness readiness. Four Seasons CERT continues to need your participation. Become a Street Captain or CERT Auxiliary. Step up. Be a part of the best CERT in the valley, come make a difference. We meet on the third Monday at 9:30 am. For more information visit https://fscert.org/cert-volunteer. You can help yourself. If you don't have a mask, Riverside County has donated 2,000 masks to Four Seasons… pick one up from The Lodge attendant. To learn how to get ready, go to https://fscert.org. Plan. Prepare.
