drama club mystery theater & more For those of you that may not have tickets for our play, all we can say is, "What are you waiting for?" You may still attend any of next weekend's performances for a mere $8 pp! The performances start with a three-day run on Thurs., May 30, at 7 pm (for Friday and Saturday, as well) and conclude with a 3 pm matinée on Sun., June 2. Even if we are sold out, we will still ensure that anyone that comes to the Ballroom and wishes to purchase a ticket will not be disappointed. We always have extra seats set up for just this purpose. The play is the Norman Robbins' comedic murder mystery, "Tomb With A View." Suffice it to say, as a description of the action, that it is a true murder mystery, but with characters right out of a British funny paper. The action is fast, so you'd better be sitting on the edge of your seat, and intent on the dialogue, as you just might miss one of the nugget one-liners that are strewn throughout the entire play. Serious plot? You bet! We'll even have a contest during intermission to allow the members of our play-loving audience a chance to win a prize for guessing who is the main perpetrator behind all of the characters dropping like flies. It's a howling farce and great fun for everyone, so don't miss it! With this play, and immediately after our cast party, we will take a summer sabbatical to recharge our batteries and refresh ourselves in preparation for next February-March's edition of "That's Entertainment." We will still have our regular monthly business Thurs., June 4, at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, so if you think that this type of action is something that you'd like to "give a go," please do join us and introduce yourself. We're a friendly group and always love to get people involved in the fun of stage production. Info., Ginger Burris, 845-9685. Last month's Drama Club Readers Theater production of "First Contact" was a great success. The selection was written by Sun Lakes own Ken Brown. Upcoming this month are auditions for the fall production. The play has not been announced at the time of this writing; however, there will be roles for men and women of all types. So mark your calendars and come on down to the bus room at the main clubhouse on June 24 and 25, from 9 am to 12 pm. Rehearsals begin in August and performances are the weekend of Oct. 23-27. Congratulations to Drama Club member Frank Gilleece on winning the Inland Theater League Award for the role of Willie Clark in Redlands Footlighters 2012 production of "The Sunshine Boys." Save the date for our annual summer concert on Sun., Aug. 4 at 2 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. The Horizon Chamber Players, lead by violinist Maki Sowash, joined by her friends from Japan, bring the virtuosity and beauty of classical music to the stage. Tickets for the concert are $10 and there will be a reception immediately following at the South Clubhouse for $5. (Seating for the reception will be limited.) Stay tuned for more information on ticket sales and the theme of this year's concert in next month's Lifestyles. If you are interested in auditioning for the fall production or would like more information about the Drama Club, please contact Rose Hermanson or Lorene Sowash. sun lakes follies We are pleased to present "The Nifty Fifties" in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, on Oct. 3 - 6.
