happy cookers' club Remember the touching scene from the movie "The Lady and the Tramp" when the two canines slurp a noodle toward each other? Well, who doesn't love noodles? So, we continue to expand our culinary expertise with "Oodles of Noodles,'' our program at the meeting on Fri., June 28, at 11 am at the South Clubhouse. Johnny Russo, owner of the popular Banning Italian restaurant bearing his name, will be the guest speaker informing members about the intriguing world of noodles: fettuccine, linguine, angel hair, squid ink, ramen, spinach, and the ever popular spaghetti. Maybe he'll share some trade secrets about cooking noodles to perfection and crowning them with delicious sauces and savory cheeses. We recently enjoyed a field trip to historic Knott's Berry Farm, the home of Walter Knott who brought the boysenberry to the world. Plus Mrs. Knott's famous chicken dinner with boysenberry pie was a hit of the day. Members also participated in the Lay's Potato Chip tasting contest to help choose the best of the final 3 flavors, Chicken and Waffles, Sriracha, or Cheesy Garlic Bread. After the voting was tabulated, Garlic Cheese Bread won as our club's favorite. Now we wait to hear who does win the national contest and $1 million. The new Karaoke Group of Sun Lakes is now jam uke a reality and moving ahead with plans for the re-opening session on Fri., June 7, in the Main Clubhouse We meet at the Scherer Senior Center in Yucaipa at 1st and B Street on Wednesdays 9 - 11 am for the regular class. The group's Steering Committee and leaders are excited by the approval and recognition vote by the Master Board in April.
