friends of bocce Summer bocce is nearly upon us. Have you signed your team up yet? The deadline for entries is June 7; play begins the week of the June 17. In our attempt to "beat the heat," we play at 5, 6, 7 and 8 (if needed) o'clock. That's PM, I might add! If you're new, you must join the Bocce Club; dues for the year are $12 pp. If you enter a team, there is a team fee of $3 pp, which monies go toward gift certificates to our restaurant awarded to the winners, runners-up and finalists at the end of each tournament. Team entries, newbies and old-timers, go to 1288 Pleasant Valley. There is a box at the door. Include the names, addresses and phone numbers of team members and e-mail addresses, if any. Checks should be made out to 'Friends of Bocce.' We are all still adjusting to the new carpet. It is slow and even slower when wet! The sideboards need considerable repair but PCM is trying to get the contractor back out here to work toward a solution. Unfortunately, these things take time. Meanwhile, be aware where your feet are; we don't want anyone to stumble due to the loose boards! Because the heat is troublesome for some, teams can find themselves a player or two short for the summer tournament. If that is the boat your team is in, call Dutch at 845-0392. She may be able to help you find a summer replacement, or even a permanent one, if need be. If you would like to join a team, that can be arranged also. By all means, come out and join the fun! See you on the courts! pickleball & paddle tennis Do you want to make new friends and meet fun people? Improve balance, agility and cardio? Then join us in the fastest growing sport among seniors in the nation… Pickleball! Or, perhaps you're more interested in the traditional Paddle Tennis game. Either way, we would love to have you come and join us! No equipment? No problem… just give us a call! Instruction and equipment can be provided! Courts are at the Main Clubhouse, next to the Pro Shop. Pickleball hours are Monday through Saturday at 8:30 am and Monday at 5 pm. Our recent clinic was fun and brought many new faces and promising talent to the sport. We encourage those who might have missed this opportunity to learn and play to call Royce, 769-1103, or George, 7970504 for information. New players can get rackets at cost by calling Jeanne McGuire, 845-8817. There's limited inventory, so contact her asap! Paddle Tennis hours are Tues., Thurs., Fri. and Sun. at 8 am, and Tues. and Thurs. at 6 pm (DST hours allow for changes). As a reminder, no black soled shoes on the courts. Check out the bulletin board, just outside the courts, for player rosters, events, etc. Do you enjoy playing 8 Ball? If so, join us. All Sun Lakers, whether on a team or not, are welcome to join our practice sessions Mondays thru Saturdays. On Ladies Day (Wednesday), table priorities go to any ladies who want to play. There is no cost to practice with our friendly group. However, if you join a team, it costs $10 per three-month season. Our teams compete every Thursday at 12 noon in our Main Clubhouse Billiards Room, with some "away" games at a couple of non-Sun Lakes facilities. For a fun afternoon of fiercebut-friendly competition, come watch us play.
