Landscape Committee Last year's additions to our Association property altered our spring landscaping schedule. The fuel modification zone that is a buffer from the sage-mesquite woodland to our south and west is now a high priority for plant control as the growing season erupts. This defensive barrier is marked by colored-tipped poles that indicate plant height and spacing requirements. Measurements start at structures, not the wall or fence. The first 30 feet must be cleared of any dead-fall and flammable plants maintained below six inches. The next 70 feet must be maintained free of flammable vegetation; vertical spacing must be created between plants and tree branches trimmed from the ground up to six feet. Vegetation that is regularly irrigated and green is generally not considered flammable. Some dry woody plants regardless of watering burn very hot and very quickly and should not be grown near structures. Our Committee has openings for interested volunteers. Plant knowledge is not required as we have landscape professionals. What is needed is the desire to walk around the community and report on the status of plant life and any unusual growth. ~ Len Tavernetti Finance Committee At our April meeting, we reviewed the Financial Statements for March, 2013, and noted the following significant items: Net Income Year-to-Date was $71,123 and total reserves were $3,479,198.
