Racquet Club A dozen players greeted Irve Sturner on the last Saturday in April for our monthly Play Day. Sensing the evenness of the competition Irve dispensed with a practice session and went immediately to very spirited mixed double play. Eight players occupied the two courts while four waited to exact revenge. We even had four Galarazas' as Dan and Rosa welcomed brother Ben and son Roberto which included some friendly family competition. FSBRC learned quickly that you don't want to schedule tennis when conflicting with our semi-annual FS yard sale — as in bumper stickers that read, "This Car Stops at All Garage Sales." You have recently received an e-mail requesting input as to interest in Mixed Doubles play over the warmer summer months. We will be in the process of organizing these events and need to know what nights and times work best for you. For our beginners, re-learners and intermediate level players, we are also seeking interest in re-starting drill and organized practice, possibly on Tuesday evenings. These sessions when scheduled will be overseen by resident Randy Federorchuk who has graciously agreed to be our "Club Pro" mentor. Randy recently was certified as an Instructional Coordinator by the Riverside Park department. So send your indications of 38 interest for either Mixed Doubles, Drills & Instruction or BOTH to Howard Lyon at hwlyon@yahoo.com. Let the summer tennis activities BEGIN, with YOU included! What a wonderful sight it was to see Don Cummings walk onto our FS courts a month ago. Given the ordeal he has been through, he looked remarkably fit and told our 3.0 and 3.5 regulars that he expects to be playing again in July! In addition to re-uppers Rosa and Dan Galaraza, we also welcome Liz Todd and Bernadette Chance as new members. We're gaining more members attending drills around 11 am on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Irve Sturner starts when Men's doubles finishes and generally we get in 45 minutes of intense stroking alternating player's court positions to afford a full range of shots: volleys, forehands, backhands and the occasional topspin lob! All levels of play welcome so join us soon! Most of the info mentioned above is covered more thoroughly on our website which also updates our event schedule instantly. As an example, we will be participating in the Four Seasons 4th of July competitions with our "Red vs. Blue" doubles event which was so successful last year.
