28 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JANUARY 2021 Check with your committee chair to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Facilities Committee The Facilities Committee would like to wish everyone here in Four Seasons Beaumont a very Happy New Year! The construction of new shuffleboard courts will have started by the time of this publication. The re-facing of the Bistro counters should be started as of this publication. The concrete has been re-stained at The Lodge and looks very nice. We are installing additional doggy stations where they are needed and on Trail F. The Facilities Committee meets via Zoom right now on the second Wednesday of the month at 10 am. We have an opening for an additional committee member at this time if anyone is interested. We always welcome residents to join us and share their ideas or concerns. ~ Jim Griffin, jjimgriff08@aol.com We all know the drill to keep safe from the coronavirus: wear a mask, wash your hands, and keep your distance. What we need to guard against now is COVID-19 fatigue or letting your guard down because we are tired of all of the restrictions. We are probably only months away from receiving a vaccine for the virus. Our job, should we decide to accept it, is to see this through to the end. We cannot allow passive resignation to overcome caution. Following through does not mean letting our guard down at the end. It means practicing the same caution and care that has kept us safe up to this point. The medical experts will let us know when we can exhale. When I think of this it reminds me of the old war movies that I watched as a kid. A sniper has soldiers pinned down but they were making slow progress. Suddenly one of the soldiers would break down and run from cover only to get shot and possibly die. We need to take every precaution to keep ourselves safe. I know we all long for the good old days. I have been forced to remind myself that the good old days are gone forever and that there will be new traditions started moving forward. I remember eating Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas tamales at my grandmother's house. I have not stopped to mourn the loss of these traditions. I just forged ahead making new memories as I moved along. Alcoholics Anonymous has an acronym called HALT to help keep their members on a safe path. The acronym stands for never getting too hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. We need to eat well, do not get upset, keep busy, and get plenty of rest. Now is not the time to alter our behavior. What we need to do now is finish strong so we can break through the tape at the finish line. Happy New Year, everyone. Next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021 at 10 am on Zoom. ~ Michael A. Mendoza, EPC Chairman, srmendoza@verizon.net Emergency Preparedness Committee
