| Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2021 | 13 Happy New Year 2021! We hope that all of our residents will enjoy the new year as a promise of hope for things to come. At our last committee meeting, we focused on a couple of priorities as projects to refresh and update in our community. With some parts of the landscaping reaching their mature height, (pine trees in particular), other plants are reaching the end of their lifespan. We will be looking more closely at these plants and determine if they need to be removed, and whether a replacement is warranted. In some cases, removing a bush or plant, allows other plants to grow. We will also be looking at cutting back bushes. Some bushes have grown so large, they interfere with other plants, or impinge on walkways and exits for our residents. Bushes that are significantly cut back, look "bad" in the beginning, but regrowth will soon cover bare twigs and limbs. The Landscape Committee recently approved adding some trees to our plant palette for the common areas. We do this to create diversity among our trees and it helps us in case there is an insect or blight that damage a specific species. Expanding from a monoculture of flora, to a polyculture of flora, reduces the chances of needing to remove and replace a number of trees if such an event occurs. We also continue to plant trees that do well in our community. We are fortunate to have a Committee member who has experience with the landscaping issues in Hemet, and his knowledge and expertise have already paid off in the selection of trees and plants in our community. Some of the trees that have been added to our plant palette include St. Mary's Magnolia, Australian Willow, Carolina Cherry, and Western Redbud. We don't know yet when we'll be planting any additional trees, but we are pleased to have a number of trees to choose from, keeping in mind these new trees should "fit in" from a landscaping point of view with the current ones. The Landscape Committee meets the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm at the Lodge. Residents are welcome to attend. Landscape Committee
