14 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JANUARY 2021 | WE DID IT! We made it through 2020 and it wasn't easy. We wish all of Four Seasons friends a very Happy New Year! Most of us celebrated the holidays very differently this year. My family celebrated together via Face Time and it was wonderful. With age comes the ability to adapt to different circumstances, like it or not! Let's see what 2021 has in store for us. At as of this writing, I am expecting a notice that the library will shut its doors for three weeks again. We had several who came up and took a few puzzles and several books expecting this as well. The puzzles will remain part of our library check-out materials. One resident visited the library and said they weren't into puzzles but they took a 300 piece anyhow. When returning the puzzle they were amazed at how much a puzzle helped to pass the time and helped with our isolation. Try one. Embrace the new "normal." After our lockdown, we will reopen Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to 12 pm. We had been open until 1 pm but no one visited us at the lunch hour. Saturday will remain 10 am to 12 pm as well. We are providing this as a service for YOU. Remember to come up in the mornings. Face masks and gloves are still required while visiting the library. Committee members have purchased the gloves for your use while there. Please don't remove them. We follow safety rules by having all books/puzzles quarantined for three days before making them available to you. Our current displayed paperback books are 2016-2020. Our fiction hardbound books are dated from 2010 to 2020. One great side effect of the pandemic is residents buying new books. We have received lots of 2020 hard bound books. Do come and check out your favorite author for a current book. We have a nice selection of non-fiction books under the paperbacks. You would be surprised at the great books available. We do not set dates for non-fiction. Take a moment to peruse that section. We certainly hope 2021 will allow us the opportunity to move forward on our Four Season's Author's section. We have a lot of talent in Four Seasons. Reading brings people into your life. Open that book! Until next month… Cookie Thoughts from Blair: "Walking the stacks in a library, dragging your fingers across the spines – it's hard not to feel the presence of sleeping spirits." Robin Sloan, Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore Library Committee The Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC) would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year for 2021. Are you ready to evacuate in the event of a fire? The recent Cerritos Fire burned within 750 yards of Four Seasons and triggered a mandatory evacuation of areas immediately to our north and east. Not only did they have to leave their homes in the smoke-filled dark, but SCE also shut off the power. We escaped the evacuation order by inches. If we had to evacuate, would you be ready? If the evacuation was for days, and your home was no longer habitable, are you ready? Learn how to prepare at fscert.org. Plan. Prepare. Survive. Our Mission: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is designed to increase individual and community preparedness and self-reliance in the event of man-made or natural disasters. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has officially recognized CERT as an important part of a community's disaster preparedness readiness. Four Seasons CERT continues to need your participation. Become a Street Captain or CERT Auxiliary. Step up. Be a part of the best CERT in the valley, come make a difference.
