For the better part of 2020 we have weathered one storm after another. When you appraise Sun Lakers you realize they have taken all that has happened in stride. You have to be proud of our friends and neighbors for their attitude and their deportment during these times. When you consider all that we have given up, our lives have really been put on hold. All of our amenities and facilities have been closed or restricted. All of our clubs and groups have been shut down allowing no activity. Our entertainments of the Friendship Club and the events of the Districts and the Recreation Department and our food and beverage services, including the Happy Hours and the entertainment in our Lounge have stopped. We are sure, in our lifetime, we have never seen changes in our lifestyles to equal what has happened in the past months. Outside of our walls we have been restricted where we go and what we can do. Restaurants and personal services and theaters and entertainment centers have been shuttered. And yet we do not hear a lot of complaining from Sun Lakers. Most of us have tried to stay busy with activities around the home. Old hobbies and new have been activated to occupy some of our time. We are to be commended for taking these happenings in stride and making the best of our time. Most of us realize that we do not depend on a daily job for our income or that we are working every day to put beans on the table. With another shutdown this past month, our holiday celebrations were tarnished and our activities were subdued. We are now looking at a new year. It is time to throw off the gloom and doom and adopt an attitude of hope and optimism for the future. The year 2021 WILL be better and we WILL begin to return to our former habits and wants and desires. Slowly, but surely, we will begin to make decisions and take directions of yesteryear. We must believe it will get better in the near future; it can't get much worse. We have learned some lessons during the past eight or nine months. We are pretty good at keeping busy, occupying our time with activities that are useful and rewarding. We coped with the "everyday" doldrums and weathered the storms of despair and came out the winners in every category. The guys and gals who do not have mates had it far worse than the rest of us. You are to be commended — a Gold Star in the middle of your forehead should be your reward. As usual, we are proud to live at Sun Lakes, even prouder, to be friends and neighbors with the other "inmates." We hope and pray the end is near and we can return to being a full-fledged Sun Laker again. A happy and prosperous new year to all!
