Now that the new year is here, it's time to make that resolution and learn how to play golf. When I first started here a few months ago, I mentioned that one of my goals was to get more homeowners playing golf. If you have ever thought about picking up a golf club, either for the first time or returning once again, you can make golf your sport for a lifetime with the Get Golf Ready Program. Getting Golf Ready isn't nearly as hard as you might think. No one falls out of bed knowing how to play golf. The GGR program is designed to teach you in five short lessons everything you need to know to play and enjoy playing golf. Remove the unknowns. Know what to expect and how to act. Your playing partners will thank you for knowing proper etiquette, pace of play and all the little things that make a round of golf enjoyable for everyone. In five lessons you learn: • Proper warm up & stretching • How to hold the club • How to prepare mentally & physically to take a swing • How to get the ball closer to the hole — chipping, pitching & other shots from short distances • How to care for the course • Getting comfortable with the full swing • How to use your irons to get the ball in the air & onto the green • The "lingo," terms like fairway, rough, tee box, green, divot & bunker • How to hit driver & other 'big' clubs – hitting the longer shots • Starting play from the correct tee markers — TEE IT FORWARD for more fun • Tips for playing in groups, on teams & other fun ways to play • Course navigation, cart driving & riding • Review of the rules & keeping score The cost of Get Golf Ready program will be $120 per person with a maximum of 10 students per series. Be on the lookout for more details as we will email all homeowners with the sign-up and schedule. For those golfers wanting to hone their skills one subject at a time, we have our popular golf clinics. Each clinic will cover a different topic which you can attend one or all. Subjects include: The driver, chipping and pitching, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, the lob shot, bunker play, etc. The cost is $20 per 45-minute session and we will take a maximum of 10 students per clinic. Monthly clinic schedules will be posted on the Sun Lakes website under Upcoming Golf Events as well as in the golf shop. We hope you will join us! With all the different golf instruction programs available, you will become accomplished golfers in no time and will need to have an annual golf membership to show off your golfing prowess. There is no excuse this year because of the new monthly payment option. For as little as $121 per month (executive course only) or $207 per month (both championship & executive courses) for a single or $321 (executive only), $379.50 (both courses) per couple, you can play unlimited golf for the entire year. The fee will be put on your monthly statement and does require a year-long commitment. You also have the option to pay-it all off at once for $2,400 for a single $4,400 per couple.
