24 | THE COLONY NEWS | JANUARY 2021 | Men's Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 461-0065 I hope everyone had a happy holiday season and that the new year will be a healthier one for us all. We were fortunate to be able to enjoy golfing with great weather during the month of December. Our Board of Directors remains the same for 2021, and we have lots of fun tournaments scheduled for the year. We hope that we can start having our monthly lunch meetings again, but for now we will continue our regular Tuesday morning schedule. For January, February and March, tee times will start at 8:30 am. If you are interested in learning more about our club, we have an 18-hole or 9-hole group available. You can contact our Membership Chair, Maureen Herzberg at (951) 677-4717 for more information on our club. We look forward to seeing you on the links! Ladies Golf By Sam Currie, 461-0801 Well, it's not too fond a farewell to 2020, but it's a very hopeful welcome to 2021. Hopeful in that we can all get back to our normal lives soon — and that includes the social side of the Colony Men's Golf Club. The social schedule of the CMGC includes monthly lunches for members in the Auditorium, barbeques in the patio area for members and partners, an annual Awards Banquet, and of course the biannual Pancake Breakfast. All of us in the Club are anxious to start enjoying these functions again. The CMGC has been in existence since 1990 and has withstood many changes in ownership of the golf course. Through all those changes, the Club has stuck to its original premise and that is to provide an organized game of golf for Colony resident golfers on a regular basis. Of course, the other benefit of that is to help support the continued existence of the golf course through regular play. If you enjoy playing Scramble or Shamble format games, along with some individual play, then why not join us for a Wednesday game of golf? You have a choice of membership packages this year. For further information, call John Hoetker at (951) 461-6758. CLUB NEWS By Kathy Lewis, 412-0006 Would you like to learn the basics of the fastest-growing sport in the world? If so, register for free beginner Pickleball lessons! No equipment is required. Paddles and balls will be available for you to use. To register, please give me a call. Lessons are available mornings, afternoons and evenings. Come and join in the fun today! We have a great group of players of all levels. Pickleball By Linda H. Kight, 319-0071 Happy New Year to you all! Let's hope that 2021 will be more on the normal side than 2020 was. Fortunately, the courts have been open for us to play on, but we still have not been able to hold any tournaments or dinners. We are looking forward to the time when we can once again socialize as a group. FYI: The Racquet Club board met in November and decided to postpone the election of the new board from December until January. There are more people interested in serving on the board than positions, so we will have an "at large" vote. Those elected will determine what position they will hold on the board. The voting will be open to all Racquet Club members, as well as to those who are active players in any of the three sports – tennis, paddle tennis and pickleball. Ballots will be available at the courts during the week of Jan. 11 to 15. Scott Ross will be at the courts to issue the ballots. Vote for no more than five people, and drop your ballot in the ballot box which will be available at the courts. There will be a separate piece of paper for you to sign your name and provide contact information (phone number or email). If the Racquet Club already has your email address, you will receive a message before the week of Jan. 11 with an attached ballot. Some of you may prefer to print the ballot out at home and then bring it down to the courts to put in the ballot box. Racquet Club
