Fannie Flagg Greetings from 2021! For auld lang syne, my Jo For auld lang syne, We'll take a cup o'kindness yet For auld lang syne. All of us are familiar with the words of this famous song, sung at exactly the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve. It speaks of friendship, hope, and farewell. As 2020 is written in the history books of time, and 2021 looms before us, we are reminded of how difficult this journey has been. For many of us, books have been our closest companions. Throughout time, man has always turned to the written story for inspiration, comfort, and knowledge. It lets us escape the ordinary life and embrace the world where we can travel, unlimited by time or space. "Libraries are the medicine chest of the soul." -Library at Thebes. The human spirit prevails even in times of hardships, and your library staff is no exception. Although the library has been closed since mid-January, a dedicated staff of volunteers continue to deliver newly purchased books. Members can sign up for those books and volunteers will deliver them directly to your home and pick them up when you are finished. You can add your name to the new book list by going to the library website. When your name comes to the top of the list, you will be called. January is the month to think about dues for the next year. Although some clubs are rolling over their dues, the Library Association is not able to do this because of the continued need to buy books all year long. Therefore, they are asking all members to continue supporting their efforts by renewing their dues at $15 a household. Checks can be made payable to OHCC Library. Please call Ellen Kippel at (760) 305-7114. She will tell you where to drop off the check. Thank you for your continued support. We welcome any new residents and encourage you to join our Library Association. As a member, you may check out any of our new books for free. The new books are listed in the OHCC magazine each month. If you don't have access to a computer, call Ellen and she will take care of signing you up. Since there was no December book list in the December OHCC Living magazine, please check the website or give Ellen a call.
