Art Lovers The Art Lovers Club Board members finally got to meet in person last month in the Palm Court under a large tent, seated six ft. apart with our masks on. It was great to finally interact with one another other in person. We discussed a possible field trip and the election of next year's officers. Our president, Susan Pick, sent emails to all members asking them to respond with a Yes or No vote for our four officers. So far, the vote has been overwhelmingly YES for our officers: President - Susan Pick, First Vice-president - Paula Doss, Secretary - Sally Booth, and Treasurer - Hal Stephens The appointed Board members have all agreed to serve another year: Second Vice-president - Nikki Bluestein, Membership Chair - Joan Westlake, Publicity - Rita Montjoy, Hospitality - Abbie Goodman and Lane Hammond. In November our Zoom session with water color artist, Jayne Spencer was delightful. She showed us so many hints on how to create a landscape while accentuating the lights and shadows in the scene. A large group of us followed her as she demonstrated painting a landscape, above left. She suggested which brushes to use and to make a light pencil sketch of your subject. Another hint was to apply your paint on a piece of scrap paper first to see if the colors are right. We hope to see Jayne Spencer in person in the coming year. Last month, several of our members ventured out to visit the C.O.A.L. Gallery and the Front Porch Gallery, both in Carlsbad. Art Lovers Club member, Nancy Klaphaak, above center, won a First Place for her alcohol ink flower painting at the C.O.A.L. Gallery. The Front Porch Gallery displayed a very interesting artwork of three pieces of fabric squares which, when you stood back, revealed faces. The Fallbrook Art Center is open, presenting the 12th annual Signature American Watermedia International Exhibition. This prestigious show features 120 watermedia works by artists who hail from across the U.S., Malaysia, China, and Singapore, all of whom hold Signature Level Membership status. While the galleries at Oceanside Museum of Art are closed, the Museum Store is allowed to remain open in the lobby Thursday through Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm for your gift-giving needs. Masks and social distancing are required. You can also stay connected to the museum from home through #VirtualOMA programming, including OMA Live. Sadly, there were no holiday parties but we are trying to stay in touch with emails. We wish you all a very happy, safe and much better new year. 22 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2021 | Just in case: Check with your club contact to confirm meeting place, date, and time. Woodchucks As we Woodchucks look back on last year, it has been filled with sadness, stress, and hope. We all faced the hardships, but are so thankful for our community. You, our neighbors, have allowed us to use a "Geppetto-like" woodshop that is a tool to serve others. In spite of the many COVID-19 difficulties, our fellow homeowners helped us in giving the kids of Camp Pendleton a record-setting Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! We have been able to build furnishings and repair accessories for the Clubhouse. Your homes are safer with our window security rods. Through all the obstacles, we have maintained smiles behind our masks. Our members continue to use all safety precautions as they take care of their "honey-do" lists, build artwork, or challenge themselves with fine woodworking. We look back on 2020 with some photos and also show a prototype-toy for next year… fun for future golfers. As we begin 2021, the Woodchucks wish all of you safety and good health. We will continue making sawdust and invite those of you interested in woodworking to join the fun. Email us for information at btwmurphy@gmail.com.
