Art is Music for Barbara's Soul
The delightful art featured this month is by Barbara
Miller, curated by Judy Harris and Lainy Vinikow. Featured
are three beautiful paintings: "Going Home," an oil painting
inspired by old photos of Barbara's husband's parents
riding their bikes home on Mackinac Island; "Mums," in
oil, painted from a photo and enhanced by her imagination;
and "Patience" (Barbara's favorite!) sketched in pastels.
Barbara began painting after she retired in 1999.
Although she had no formal art education, she decided
to take an adult education course in Escondido and was
fortunate to study with some very fine local artists. Art
has become a continuous journey for her, exploring and
expressing herself as she paints in oil, pastels, watercolor,
and acrylic. Occasionally, she explores other mediums as
well. Many of her paintings were inspired by photographs
taken while traveling worldwide. However, life in beautiful
San Diego has become the perfect inspiration for her art.
Over the years Barbara has participated in the Artwalk
in Little Italy, the San Diego County Fair, the Rancho Santa
Fe Art Fair, the Del Mar Art Stroll, the International Hotel/
Motel, and Restaurant Exhibit at the Jacob Javitz Center
in New York City as well as various galleries and similar
venues and has won numerous awards. Her paintings are
in private collections throughout the USA and Australia.
