24 | OHCC LIVING | JANUARY 2021 | Papercrafting Club Happy New Year from the Papercrafting club, to all our friends here at OHCC! 2021! Can you believe it is finally here? It feels good to look ahead and put 2020 behind us. Hopefully as you are reading this, you are safe, healthy, and happy, and have gotten your appointment or soon will have one for your COVID-19 vaccine. We are moving closer to the day when we can set aside our COVID fears and get back to using our beloved Clubhouse, pool, golf course and all other outdoor facilities without restrictions. During this time, we've learned to cherish all those things we may have taken for granted in the past, like meeting with friends and crafting together in the Art Room. That is what I miss most and cannot wait to get back to it! But in the meantime, the Papercrafters, though keeping a low profile at home, have been remarkably busy. Many of them hand made all their Christmas cards last month and are now gearing up for our next big holiday: Valentine's Day! And our very own Christine Sanderson is compiling a resource list of suppliers, stores, and online venues where Papercrafting creations, supplies, tools, paper, instruction, photos and more can be found. Thank you, Christine, for accepting that massive undertaking, but what a fabulous resource that will be for us all! This month, I have decided to highlight my group, Group 5, the first class to have had only two months of weekly gathering and instruction at the Clubhouse before having to give up all that wonderful fellowship, space, and amazing resource of crafting tools. We started with 15 members. We are down to 10 survivors who are totally dedicated to the club, the craft and each other. In addition to Jan Malone, and Karen Yoder, our fearless leaders, and the people responsible for keeping our hearts and minds receptive to learning a new hobby during quarantine, we have, in alphabetical order: Ruth Berthel, Tanya Beyers, Beth Brewer, Debbie Cea, Lissa Glenn, Vicki Green, Dorothy Russell, Sheila Smith, Nancy Stock, and Mary Ann Williams. Sadly, we must say goodbye to our wonderful 2020 Co-leader, Karen Yoder, who has had to step down due to her upcoming travel commitments. And so, I have been asked to, and have accepted the role of co-leader on two conditions. That Jan will remain as leader if she is able, and that I can continue learning as well as helping as co leader. I can only hope to try and fill Karen's shoes for 2021. So, the Papercrafter's bylaws call for a new group, after completing their first year, to have their members get involved in coaching, leading, and teaching a class themselves at least twice a year. This is a bit daunting when you consider we are still newbies in learning mode. But this will be a wonderful challenge especially with all the resources available to us, not only within the Papercrafting club at large, and the tools and supplies in the Art Room, but the amazing stuff you can find on YouTube and Pinterest as well. Did you know you can view some of our master Papercrafter's work on Pinterest? Some of them have their own accounts and upload their beautiful creations for all to see. You should really take a look. Start with Janice Malone. We have some very artistic and talented people in our club! I will supply more names to look up next month! Group 5 really stepped up in the month of December and I have supplied the editors with pictures of some of our best Nov/ December papercrafting work. Thanks to Jan and Karen, we were able to learn more about specialty paper and dies from Stampin' Up Leaf dies and Plaids for Fall, tiny holiday gift bags, Washi tape Christmas trees, holiday paper, layering and layouts, gate cards with "belly bands" specialty fold cards and holiday gift tags. In the month of January, look for news about joining the Papercrafting Club and other clubs by participating in the Do Dues event! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year in 2021. Papercrafting news coming next month: Spotlight on Group 1; The newly elected club officers for 2021; The answer to: Will we have a Group 6? And more!
