Racquet Club
The new year always brings hope, warm wishes for health and happiness, and an
abundance of resolutions for the following 12 months. This year, with even stronger
sentiments, we put 2020 behind us with overflowing optimism for 2021.
For our Racquet Club and OHCC residents, the new year brings updated tennis and
pickleball courts. The project is led by Herb Livsey, 2021 Racquet Club president and
Racquet Club board member Rob Schoonover. Much planning was done in 2020 by Herb,
in collaboration with Rob, Greg Johnson, and Cliff Singh along with input from the club
board and members. At the time of this writing, the project is estimated to start in mid-
January.
The project redesigns the existing layout, turning T1 back to full-time, tennis only
with brand-new court lines more resilient to water damage. The courts at T2 will be
reconfigured into three designated pickleball courts with barriers to prevent errant balls
from interrupting adjacent games. And when gathering is once again allowed, waiting
players and spectators will be able to make full use of the adjoining patio seating area — a
nifty benefit of the redo.
A tremendous amount of time, effort, and thought went into the planning for
redevelopment of the courts which will serve a growing membership — nearly 400 strong
— and OHCC residents. We look forward to new courts, more match-ups, and the return
to tournaments in 2021.
For water volleyball, Charlie Payne reports that play is on hold until better conditions
prevail.
