It is February 2021 and I'm still having trouble writing the year 2000 something. We are all ever hopeful that this year with the virus shot et al, this problem will begin to go away. In the meantime, your District Delegate does his/her job every month. Yes, we still have a few chores to do even though we are restricted in our activities. Years ago, the Assembly voted on some projects that benefited the community. The first program was "Fill the Cupboard." Each month, two Districts gather and donate food and cash to the Senior Center of Banning. All of the donations go to the Senior Center. None of the proceeds go to the city. We give them packaged food stuffs and gift cards. The gift cards are for the purchase of items not usually donated but needed. They also buy small gifts to be used when the seniors play bingo for prizes. With 23 Districts, one month three Districts are assigned and no one is assigned the month of December. Many Districts volunteer to donate during the holidays. The Holiday Wish Program was adopted about 15 or more years ago. The Banning School District provides lists of needy families. They are screened by a committee headed by Debbie Franklin. One of the requirements is that the family does community work in their area. At our November meeting, each District selects families to receive their donations. The District usually adds up the number of children in the families that they feel their District can handle financially. The forms we receive list the ages and sizes of the children and what they would like from Santa. Our purchases always include clothing and toys. A few years after the building of homes began at Sun Lakes, the early Districts placed Christmas trees in the center divider of Sun Lakes Blvd. As the complex was completed, the District Delegate Assembly voted to place Christmas trees in the center divider and the section leading to the Main Clubhouse. Moreover, the two Districts on the north side were to place trees at the North Clubhouse. The HOA supplies the trees and each District has a volunteer group who trims them. Finally, each District is obligated to publish a monthly newsletter for their residents. It is to provide information about our HOA as well as news items about their District. A copy of the newsletter is sent to the Administration and is shown on the Sun Lakes' website each month for all residents to read all of the District's newsletters. We have a great group of District Delegates and Alternate Delegates elected by you. Thank you for selecting them.
