FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2021 13
I must say they did a great job despite having way too much to
drink. I thought, it's been an interesting day, now let's get back to the
hotel.
As we were towed into the harbor, I looked for my hotel but it
wasn't there. How could that be? Then I realized we had been towed
to a different harbor than the one we had left from this morning.
Getting off the boat I did my charades act with the captain,
explaining I needed to get back to my hotel. I knew what the answer
would be, "no worries, mate" and he called over a crew member.
Using hand signs it was clear this crew member would give me a lift
to the hotel on his motor bike.
It was with great pride that he presented his motor bike to me.
It was fine except he had converted the passenger seat into a fish
carrying container. On closer examination, I found it was actually a
container of fish heads. The captain saw me looking at the fish heads
where my butt was supposed to go. He quickly got out his Burmese
army knife (like a Swiss army knife but rusty, dull and broken) and
removed the fish head box. That left some sharp metal brackets
where the seat should have been. He quickly grabbed an old life
jacket and placed it on the brackets.
One last "no worries, mate" and I was ready to go. Well, what an
adventure today has been! Tomorrow, I will start traveling north to
the big city of Yangon (previously Rangoon).

performing skits or as a magician. ~ Elizabeth Westbrook
