Susie Yang Why Did I Come Into This Room? (NF) ......................... Joan Lunden Welcome to February, the month of love! Did you know that the loveliest week of the year is "The Valentine Week?" It starts on Feb. 7 with Rose Day, followed by Propose Day, Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug and Kiss Day, and ends on Valentine's Day. Throughout time, the human spirit has always embraced love. It takes us through the sad times, the lonely times, and the difficult times. "Where there is love, there is no darkness." What better way to celebrate Valentine week than reading a good book from your OHCC Library! As many of you know, January is the month to renew your dues. Although some clubs are rolling over their dues because the Clubhouse is closed, the Library Association depends on your annual support in order to continue purchasing new books monthly. These books are readily available even though the library is closed. Members can sign up for these books and volunteers will deliver them directly to your home and pick them up when you are finished. You can add your name to the new book list by going to the library website. When your name comes to the top of the list, you will receive a phone call. If you have not renewed your membership, or you are a new resident wishing to join, the dues are $15 per household. You can contact Ellen Kippel at (760) 305-7114 for instructions on where to drop your check. We continually welcome new residents and encourage you to join our Library Association. Across the years, the library has always been a respite that welcomed the passerby. It was a quiet place to sit and read a good book, to be warmed by a glowing fireplace. It was a place to meet a new friend or occasionally be entertained by some of our resident actors performing your favorite literature. Smaller children could always look forward to holiday programs filled with stories and a visit from Santa. Most important, perhaps, was that the open doors of the library reached out as you entered the club house and simply said "Welcome." Although the pandemic has forced us to close the access to our library, we continue to bring you the written word and keep books alive. We would like to thank you and our volunteers for making this possible. "Books are lighthouses erected in the sea of time." ~ Whipple Library Association FEBRUARY BOOK BUYS Ask about our OHCC discount!
