Art Lovers In 1987 the late Sara Botts was instrumental in forming the Art Lovers Club with the goal of understanding art in all its variations through special guest speakers, art demonstrations, members sharing their special art treasures as well as bus and car trips to art venues. The club's first event was a monumental three-day exhibit of art works owned by OHCC residents. Quite an undertaking that even required security guards! If you are an artist, artisan or art lover, this club is designed for you. When this pandemic is finally over, our meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of each month at 1 pm in the Mykonos Room. Dates and times of our trips and tours vary depending upon the circumstances. Dues are $10 annually although our active members' dues are in effect until January 2022. If you would like to become a new member please provide checks only, payable to OH Art Lovers Club. Please include your phone number and email address. Checks should be placed in Susan Pick's tube at 4998 Corinthia Way. Oceanside Museum of Art has many virtual programs to enjoy while we are still staying at home. Woodchucks This new year has allowed us to reflect on our blessings… one of which is the OHCC community. There are still many activities to enjoy as we all try to sneak a peek out from under the clouds of uncertainty. Our fellow Woodchucks are busy crafting projects from wood, using some of the finest tools available. Thanks to our community and the HOA, we are fortunate to have both safe and quality woodworking tools. The best example is our SAWSTOP table-saw. Most of our Woodchuck Members have eight fingers and two thumbs; this incredible table-saw was designed to keep it that way. Built into the workings is a cam attached to a sensor. The sensor reads moisture, and will throw the cam into the sawblade stopping it immediately. Our fingers are damp and if they get close to the blade it automatically stops the blade. Pictured is a cam-destroyed blade… cost of new blade and cam, $150… having all your digits, priceless! Here is a link to learn more about this magical tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8EX7mt3ByE We continue to practice the COVID-19 protocol by limiting woodshop usage; we sign in with temperature checks, we open all doors; and we thank the staff for the continual sanitizing. Join us for the adventure of creating art from a block of wood. Call (760) 607- 2126. Woodchucks - serving those who so bravely serve us!
