| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2021 | 5 SERT CLUB: Have a Golf Cart? SERT Needs Your Help! By John Slayton, SERT Club President The one constant between the retired CERT Organization and the current SERT Club is the Emergency Response Team (ERT); a group of resident volunteers committed to helping the community in time of need. For the past several months the ERT Command Staff has been diligently developing what we consider to be a highly effective and efficient response strategy. This strategy now consolidates three teams into one, realigns three community response areas into eight response sectors, and unifies tactical and affiliate members into one cohesive response unit. We have high confidence in the success of this new and improved plan of action, but we need your help. The community is just too large to perform a timely infrastructure damage and life safety assessment without a mobile transportation system to move responders from the Clubhouse staging area to the eight patrol sectors. That is where you, the golf cart owner, can make a difference. We require a contingent of golf carts and drivers willing to transport responders to and through their assigned sectors while they perform the various assessments. You will also act as their "buddy," if needed, to perform minor, non-emergency tasks. When your assistance is needed, you will be notified by an automated landline/cell phone/text system and be requested to report to the Clubhouse staging area. From there you will be paired with one or more responders (depending on the capability of your golf cart) along with carrying several (five or so) traffic cones. Once the sector assessment is completed you will return to the staging area for your next assignment. This would be a great opportunity for spouses, friends, or neighbors to pair with an ERT tactical responder as well. Your overall time commitment is minimal. All we ask is your attendance for a one-hour annual safety training meeting and a four-hour annual emergency response exercise. During an actual emergency activation, you can transport responders to as few as one sector – or stay until all the sectors have been assessed- your choice. You do not need to be a member of the SERT Club to provide this valuable service, but you're certainly welcome to join. And - did I mention that you will receive an official BLUE safety vest! If the recent gathering of golf carts for the holiday parade is any indication, there are plenty of golf carts in the community – so please consider offering yours for this worthy cause. If you are interested, please contact the SERT Club at its email address – ohccsert@gmail.com. You will be glad you did! As always – stay safe. Recently, the Master Board dissolved the Ad-Hoc Interior Design Committee and the Standing Marketing and Communications Committee and approved a newly created Standing Committee: the Community Image and Marketing Committee. The new committee merges the resources and talents of both prior committees to form a single committee tasked with ensuring consistency of OHCC's brand identity and visual imagery. It brings together design consultation and marketing to ensure that we consistently project a strong image of the resort community that is Ocean Hills Country Club. The Committee will be working with various other committees as projects occur, including the Landscape Committee, A/V, and ARC. Recommendations to the Master Board would include issues that may arise concerning consistency of signage, the website, publications, logo usage design, and both visual and auditory imagery. Further duties include possible recommendations on design of any Common Area renovation, ongoing maintenance, and new construction projects. The founding members of the Committee are Judy Caston, Christy Cooper, Kathleen Harper, Jeff Mowers (Vice-Chair), Tom Murphy (Chair), Christine Ross, and Nancy Trimino. The Committee welcomes all residents' observations and comments. For a full description of the Committee's charter, visit the website at oceanhillscountryclub.com.
