40 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2021 |
Yiddish Culture Club
The Yiddish Culture Club has continued
to have Zoom meetings during the pandemic
and this month's highlight will be a Virtual
Zoom Seder! Yes, we will deliver our abridged
Hagaddah and everyone can participate. Just
try to provide your own ceremonial foods,
like bitter herbs, charoses (apples and honey),
parsley, wine, a roasted egg, a shankbone (or a
picture of one?) and matzoh. But don't worry
about getting the Matzoh - our YCC Board will
be taking care of that! Just mark the date on
your calendar: Sun., March 28, at 6 pm. Zoom
connection will be emailed shortly before that date. The seder will be
our only Zoom meeting in March.
Passover this year starts the eve of March 27 and continues
through April 4. It is one of the most important religious festivals of
the year to commemorate the liberation of the Children of Israel who
were led out of Egypt by Moses.
Membership in the YCC is open to all, and dues have been
suspended, so come join us! Contact Diane Berley to get your name
on the list.
Late in February the YCC members were again treated to a surprise
with a delivery of Hamantashen to celebrate
Purim, which fell on Feb. 25. These sweet treats
are made by folding in the sides of a circular
piece of dough over a filling which traditionally
is nuts, prune, date, apricot, raspberry, raisins,
apple, or sesame. It's supposed to represent
Haman's hat! These are just some of the
wonderful traditional foods that are shared in
the club.
Please notify Marilyn Forhane, YCC's
Sunshine Board Member, at (951) 845-9455
if you know a member who should receive a
greeting or card from the YCC for birthdays, anniversaries, illness or
for a loved one who has passed.
