22 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MARCH 2021 | The Four Seasons Tennis Club has been active for many years enjoying the physical activity and camaraderie of a favorite sport. Since 2012 players have annually recognized one (or a couple last year) individual with a "Spirit Award." This award was created to honor an outstanding gentleman, Bill Koretke, who sadly passed several years ago. The recipient chosen is always an enthusiastic participant, but also an individual of excellent sportsmanship, character and service to others. The 2020 recipient is an exemplary choice - Earle Irvine, pictured here. Earle has played sports all of his life and was fortunate enough to play tennis doubles for many, many years with his brother. They were very competitive and participated in and won numerous ATP events. At Four Seasons, Earle's focus has been on fun; the enjoyment of the interactions both skilled and social, that make tennis addictive. Earle's career choice as a chiropractor speaks to his compassion for his fellow man and his big, welcoming grin immediately makes friends and strangers alike glad to be in his company. And just watching him play his game is a how-to lesson! The Tennis Club was unable to hold its end of the year get together this year when the Spirit Award Plaque would normally be presented. Earle received the Plaque on Jan. 15 with just former recipients in attendance to abide by social distancing requirements. So, when you see Earle out and about, please congratulate him from a distance! We will all be ready with hugs for him, ASAP! Tennis Club Pickleball Come join the fun! We play on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays from 7:30 am to noon. We invite anyone that would like to learn how to play Pickleball to come on down the fourth Saturday of the month at 8 am for lessons. We know you will have as much fun as we do. Players of all skill levels welcome! Earle Irvine, the 2020 recipient of Tennis Friends' Spirit Award. Healthy Living The photo below is the "core" of the Healthy Living Team. The excerpt below is a caring reminder that we can fool ourselves into believing we are doing enough to stay healthy. "If I had to decide right now whether I was a healthy person or not, I'd take my pen and circle the word healthy. I work out, I scrutinize everything I buy in the market, and I elect to remain calm when I'm overwhelmed… even when what I want to do is scream. Being healthy is subjective, sure, but it's something I can half do. Meaning, I can commit to being healthy when it's convenient and decide not to be when I just want to scarf down a burger loaded with cheese and bacon (no bun because: healthy). But I don't want to be a half-healthy person." The Healthy Living Team is not meeting in The Lodge per the current restrictions.
