From the President, Gary Sopata - Welcome to March and the beginning of springtime. We've had a long, long cold and wet winter and I'm sure all of us are looking forward to some plush green grass fairways and our beautiful yellow flowers. And of course (especially me) many new baby additions to our diverse bird population. Our March tournament schedule brings us two partner events, two team scrambles, and our monthly Masters tournament, plus the return of Daylight Savings time. So, line up your partners and get out and play as often as possible. Looking forward to seeing you out on the course! From the Handicap Chair, Bernie Sebzda – As a reminder to everybody please make sure you post your adjusted scores and do it on the day of play to ensure your handicap index is as accurate and as up-to-date as possible. Everyone also needs to make sure you take no more than a Net Double Bogey on any hole when you post your adjusted score. Net Double Bogey equals par plus two plus any handicap strokes you get on any hole. From the Greens Liaison Bill Barnes and Rules Chair Dominic Tassoni - The course staff has recently re-staked all the penalty areas and we want to discuss the areas deemed "No Play Zones." These areas are marked by red stakes with green tops and are located on Hole #5 (the area behind the far fairway bunker and on the right of the cart path), Hole #6 (the area between the tee boxes and the fairway), Hole #11 (the flood control channel right of the cart path), Hole #13 (the lake short and to the left of the green), and Hole #15 (the lake to the left of the fairway all the way up to the green). Unlike a normal penalty area, you are not allowed under any circumstance to play your ball from these "No Play Zones" and must drop a ball (with a one stroke penalty) within two clubs lengths of where the ball entered or in a straight line back from point of entry to the flagstick. If you do play your ball from one of these areas, it will be a two stroke penalty or loss of hole in match play. According to the USGA and the Hemet Golf Course, you should not enter these "No Play Zones" for any reason, including retrieving your ball. If you have any questions, please contact Dominic Tassoni, Rules Chairman or Bill Barnes, Greens Liaison. From the Tournament Chair, Elliot Yaeger – We are starting at 8 am for our Tuesday games. Remember, on March 14 we move back to daylight savings time. Here is the March Schedule. March 2, 8 am: Partners Any Flight - Best Net Score per Hole March 9, 8 am: Team: Player on the Spot Plus One - Max One "A" Flight Player March 16, 8 am: Team Scramble - St. Patrick's Day Celebration - Max 1 "A" Flight Player March 23, 8 am: Partners SAME Flight Six - Six - Six March 30, 8 am: (C) "Masters" Low Net by Flight - Post as Competition There really are not any updates for Shuffleboard since our season does not begin until September. Hopefully by then we will be able to socialize and be somewhat back to normal. The weather is not as chilly in the morning and this would be the perfect time to join the Monday Friday group that plays at 9 am. If you are new to this sport and would like to learn, or a seasoned player and would like to brush up on your skills, the Monday Friday group would like to have you join them. Remember no more than 12 on the courts at a time. Any resident can check out the equipment by going to the front desk. They will explain the procedure. The Shuffleboard courts are for residents only. Sorry no quests currently. If you have any questions, contact me either by phone (951) 325-8357 or email toniharris63@ verizon.net. Do not let the leprechaun play any tricks on you. Happy Patrick's Day to all. Shuffleboard
