Since early childhood, we were told the wonderful stories of fairy-like creatures who spent their time hiding away their coins in hidden pots of gold at the ends of rainbows. The stories of these mischievous little men dressed in green and measuring only three feet tall have entertained us and brought laughter to our otherwise ordinary days of March. As children, we eagerly awaited a trip to our local library to pick out these magical stories about clever fairies. So why wouldn't I accept the existence of our own Leprechaun, Fergus O'Leary, (Fergie) who has taken up residence in our OHCC Library since its closure? Here is some of the important news he wishes to impart to all of you. Fergie, resting comfortably in one of the library chairs by the fireplace, marks his place in the book, Finian's Rainbow hoping to return to it soon. He wishes to encourage anyone who wants the staff to purchase a new book to go on-line to the library website or call Ellen Kippel at (760) 305-7114 if they don't have access to a computer. The book must be hardcover and released no later than January 2021. Jean Hefler, President of the Library Association, and the staff are working to gain access to the library by appointments only when San Diego County allows indoor activities. The access will be limited and managed. More updates will follow. Fergie will need to go into escape mode, however, because once Leprechauns are caught, they must grant humans three wishes, a frightening thought for him. Since he is an escape artist, it shouldn't be difficult. Last of all, we want to thank our community who have supported our efforts during these difficult times, and the volunteers who are working to keep the books coming. Our current mobile librarians are Ginny Koon, Kathleen Payne, Nancy Gayvert, Linda Budd, and Ella Jarf. If you see them around in their golf carts, tip your hat and wish them "A Top of the Morning!" Fergie, who is also a very good banker, wants to remind you to pay those dues. Look for him among the books once the library opens. He promises to behave and not be a trickster. You never know when you are going to find that pot of gold in the OHCC Library. As Fergie says, "It's no use carrying an umbrella if your shoes leak." Library Association MARCH BOOK BUYS The Community Image and Marketing Committee has been busy since it began last month. Our continued goal is to enhance and improve our community image, to ensure consistency of our message and protect home values. The new committee met several times to address issues of design consistency, future improvements to the Clubhouse interior rooms, landscaping and refreshed design of the community's front entry and guard gate. Suggestions, priority lists and recommendations are in the works. We have met with Securitas staff, HOA, the Website Committee and the Landscaping Committee in our continued efforts to improve and sustain our tropical/resort image. The committee welcomes all residents observations and comments. The members of the committee are Tom Murphy (Chair) twmmurphy@ gmail.com, Jeff Mowers (Vice-Chair), Judy Caston, Christy Cooper, Christine Ross, Marcy Samoiloff and Nancy Trimino.
