24 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2021 | Papercrafting Club Greetings from the Papercrafting Club! This month, we're featuring Papercrafting's Group 2 and their cards! Group 2 is one of the first two groups in the Papercrafting club dating back four years. They have 14 members. During COVID-19, Group 2 has been having weekly Zoom meetings on Fridays, with members participating from home. The leader of Group 2 is Diana Hoffman, a club member for three years. Diana studied art in college and brings her creative skills to the art of papercrafting. In addition, Diana enjoys painting, acrylics being her preferred medium. The focus of Group 2's meetings is learning new techniques. Each Friday, they agree on a technique to learn and a corresponding YouTube video tutorial to watch before the next meeting. The following Friday, using their own supplies, members attend the Zoom meeting to make a card, using the technique learned on YouTube. The cards displayed here are examples of a technique called paper piercing. Zoom classes are not embraced by everyone in the club and some don't participate for various reasons, older PC technology and personal preference being the most common. However, those who do participate find it easier to complete the project while enjoying that all important social benefit that one joins a club to enjoy. The members of Group 2 include: Karin Barnes, Emma Chung, Terri Eckhardt, Vicky Herrmann, Kathleen Hunt, Kathy Kelsay, Ellen Kippel, Don Donohew, Magda Kovacs, Jill Lemons, Debbie Machnick, Kathy Moskovitz, Carole Ann Nakeff, Ellin Whitson and Sharron Seidenberg (Sharon is a temporary member from another group). Ellen and Don are the group's donating members, known for their generous support of the group. Jill Lemons is Group 2's newest member who has taught scrapbooking for years and is a consultant for Close to My Heart, a cardmaking company. Access Jill's page at www.closetomyheart.com, select Find a Maker, and type in Jill Lemons, Oceanside. Another talented crafter in Group 2 is Karin Barnes. She has her own papercrafting business and her tabletop Gingerbread house kits are always in demand. She sells her cards at the OHCC craft fairs and at the local farmers market in the fall. An experienced Cricut user, she is on the "cutting edge" of the latest papercrafting technology: digital cutting. Find out more about Karin and her business at www. retiredletsdolunch.com Another digital "Wiz" is Terri Eckhart. Both she and Karin plan on helping others learn how to use these machines once meetings at the clubhouse resume. Karin co-leads Papercrafting's TOTES classes. TOTES stands for, Think Outside the Envelopes. Their focus is on papercrafting projects other than cards. FYI: March is National Craft Month!
