| OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2021 | 31 Bocce Club To bank or not… I see a lot of people using bank shots. I rarely do, unless the path to a straight shot is blocked by my opponent. I don't see any advantage. In fact, I see it as a disadvantage. As a Mechanical Engineer, I learned that the shortest path between two points is a straight line. It's shorter, and I believe, it's more accurate to throw a straight ball to my target than to bounce the ball off the side wall. With a straight ball, I can see my target. With a bank shot, I have to guess at a point on the side wall to hit to hopefully get to my target. Yet a lot of you use bank shots, and I don't understand why. From what I have witnessed, most people who use bank shots frequently miss their target by quite a bit. To me, they are wasted shots. So why do they do it? I will publish the best replies (in my opinion) in future newsletters. Grooming the courts: If you broom the courts, two things to keep in mind: 1.) Please keep the broom off the rails. It prevents lost bristles and damage to the rails, 2.) Do not start or end grooming at the back rails of the court. Brooming should start just past the corner angles. This will keep the product from building up on the back rails; maintenance has ordered a new broom so it will be good practice for all. Refurbished Paddles: If you need to return the pallino, roll it back to the team. Please don't use the edge of the paddle to send the pallino back.
