6 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2021 | SERT CLUB: Have Motorhome - Will Travel? By John Slayton, SERT Club President It has been said that it takes "a village," but it actually takes "all the villages." In last month's edition of OHCC Living I asked for volunteers to offer their services and that of their golf cart to the SERT Emergency Response Team during an emergency. So far, SERT has only received two offers, so if you have not yet sent that email, please do! This month, I am expanding my request and asking for RVs and more specifically motorhomes with a generator. A few members of the RV Club have already volunteered their motorhome, but more are needed. During the actual response (which is not expected to last more than three days, and only about 12 hours each day), you, and your motorhome will be placed at a strategic location somewhere within the community (Clubhouse, HOA, and other locations). This will allow emergency response golf carts and radios to recharge, and responders to get out of the cold and rain and use the restroom. At the end of the response, the interior of your motorhome will be professionally cleaned if requested. All we ask is that you have a full tank of freshwater, empty black and grey tanks, and enough fuel to run your generator for three days. (SERT will also reimburse fuel costs if requested.) When the response day is finished, we would ask that you park your motorhome in front of your residence, and as a component of the Neighbor Helping Neighbor program allow your neighbors to connect to the motorhome for brief periods of electrical use. As with my golf cart request, you do not need to be a member of SERT, but you are certainly welcome to join. Your only commitment outside of being activated during an actual emergency is to attend an annual one-hour safety orientation and participate in an annual emergency response drill. If you would like to help, please send an email to the SERT Club office at ohccsert@gmail.com and we will be in contact. In other SERT Club news, there are still Neighbor Helping Neighbor Street Captain positions available. This is an excellent way to meet your neighbors while contributing to the overall safety of the community. Many streets have Co (husband and wife) Captain teams so both share the duties making it easier and quicker. If there are no vacancies on your street, there may be opportunities close by, so please contact us if interested. Finally, the SERT Club Board of Directors is always interested to know what ideas you might have to better prepare the community for an emergency. We have the "ear" of both Community Patrol and the Master Board so with your help we can be the voice of the community. Hopefully, most of you (especially the men) "got" my lame attempt to rip-off the title of the 1950's TV western Have Gun – Will Travel, but at least I'm not asking you to "wire Paladin – San Francisco!" Until the next issue – please stay safe… By Scott Lemieux, CPS Director The month of March is already upon us. January and February proved to be a relatively quiet beginning for 2021. Thenk you to Wendy Panizza, the HOA General Manager and Heather Podwoski, the HOA Officer Manager for their support, guidance and exceptional leadership. Their direction is a key component in Community Patrol Services' ability to provide quality service and support to residents and staff of OHCC. The success and continuous quality of service that CPS has been able to achieve and provide is a direct result of both Wendy's and Heather's commitment to provide unwavering support and leadership to Community Patrol. Thank you to you and your exceptional staff. As we approach nearly a year of living within the COVID-19 environment and having to integrate safety requirements that have become a mandated aspect of our daily lives, I'd like to thank OHCC residents for their cooperation, patience and support of Community Patrol Services. CPS will continue to focus on our primary responsibilities of access control, emergency response and enforcement of the rules and regulations within the community. I ask that as residents you continue to support CPS in that endeavor by abiding by the posted 25 mph speed limit within Ocean Hills. Also please come to a complete stop at all STOP signs and ensure that when utilizing community facilities to respect your neighbors and OHCC staff. Additionally, please remember that pedestrians always have the right of way over any wheeled transport, be that vehicles, golf carts, bicycles and motorized mobility scooters. Please notify your guests and service providers to do likewise thereby contributing to a safer community for everyone. The golf course, pool and multiple sports courts within OHCC have specific rules and regulations that must be followed. Please abide by the direction of staff regarding any scheduling conflicts that may arise. As a reminder; residents, guests and service providers are all responsible for both compliance and personal conduct. Abusive language and/or aggressive behavior are considered citable violations at Ocean Hills. Please be respectful to all as you enjoy the wonderful facilities available here.
